AYNORSCHOOL
OPENS ON 18 TH
The public school at Ay nor, S. C.,
which usually has about 180 pupils,
is ready to open the fall session ot'
1922, on September 18th.
It is the intention of the trustees
to have nine grades taught in the
school this time, all of the higher
grades will be taught in the main
public school building. The lower
floor of the Masonic Hall at Aynor
is now being prepared for taking
care of all lower grades.
It is believed that the best selection
of teachers has been made.
These teachers are Mr. C. B. Sutton,
of Stillman, Georgia, Superintendent,
Mrs. C. D. Sutton, Miss Evangeline
Whitman, of Plum Branch, South
Carolina, Miss Alma Watson, of
Cleora, South Carolina, Miss Gertrude
Campbell of Smoaks, South
Carolina. They will take care of the
different grades in the school it no
being yet decided as to which grades
will be assigned to these different
teachers. There are no kids among
the list of teachers and all are recommended
as Christian people with
long experience and more than the
average ability as educators.
The trustees are making every
effort to obtain from the patrons of
this school the co-operation that
must be had in order to make the
coming sessions one of the most successful
that Aynor has ever had.

TO RARE SIGHT
/ An
unusual curiousity was the outcome
of a hath in the serf by Mr.
Harry B. Bryan, of Loris, S. C.,
and Mr. J. E. Stanley, of Durham,
N. C., when a mermaid appeared
first to Mr. Bryan, later to Mr.
Stanley, and then to both gentlemen
making its appearance three times.
Mr. Bryan states, that while in the
serf at Cherry Grove Be.ich on last
Saturday af ernoon, and no one bring
in with him save Mr. Stanley,
that a full grown mermaid rose up
ful1 face and breast view, about six
steps away from him, and that he
got a perfectly natural view of the
very rare sight of a mermaid. Then
calling to Mr. .Stanley, who was a
few steps in the rear, both sought
diligently to see the object again,
and were successful in their attempt
two more times.
Mr. Bryan states that the first cppearance
of the peculiar sea animal
was mftst plain, and he describes
its appearance as perfectly human;
having hair like a woman, eyes,
month, nose, shoulders, exactlv as a
natural human being, only much
smaller than an ordinary woman. Hf

bushy, and her complexion tanned,

THE LAYMAN'S VIEWPOINT
The American Bar Association, in
convention assembled, has made many
recommenations, doubtless all wise,
looking towards judicial reform.
Chief Justice Taft, whose world-wide
reputation as a jurist suffers not at
all from his able exporsition of
needed legal changes, has outlined
through this association to the legal
profession of the country, the thing
which he believes should be done to
make our judical system better.
All of which is well, very well;
but perhaps not well enough. Did
it ever occur to a lawyer, do you
suppose, to ask a layman for his
ideas of judical reform
It probably did not. The "l6ga!
mind" can not think as the layman
thinks, and yet law is for the layman
justice is for the lawman, courts are
for the layman.
If you have a case of any sort it
is put on a docket. When it is
reached, you must be there to defend
or prosecute it. If they sa-v
tomorrow and you come tomorrow
and bring fifty witnesses tomorrow,
and the court isn't ready for you,
you must wait. The witnesses wait.
The judge must not wait. If courts
ran to a schedule and the schedule
ran out once in a while, and the court
did nothing but hold its hands, more
