DANCE BRINGS A PROTEST
(Continued From Page 1)....
Council. Mr. D. M. Burrough said
that in his opinion it would be better
to let the young people have the dance
in Conway at the Town Hall than to
let them go to Myrtle Beach. He remarked
that the best church people at
Myrtle Beach had gone and looked on
:it these dances at Myrtle Bcach xthis
summer although they did not* take
part in the dancing*. He said that
the Council had already agreed to allow
Hie Hall to he used and that he
would favor the use o fthe Hall on
Friday night but might favor the pro- i
hibition of its use after that, especially
if anything wrong were allowed to
take place on Friday night at this ]
dance. He was of the opinion that if 1
properly chaperoned there would be no ]
harm in having this dance at the City ]
Hall on Friday night. ]
Mr. S. P. 11 awes said that he would i
not oppose the use of the Hall this ]
(.ne mor time, but would favor the
passage wf the Ordinance to stop the r
use of the Hall for such purposes
after Friday night. t
J. T. Mishoe expressed himself in )
the meeting as not favoring dances, ;
personally, but as the use of the Hall L
had been granted, he thought that it
should go <ui for this time only, even
though it might be prohibited later.
After discussion, a motion was
made by Mr. D. M. Burroughs Mint (
the Hall be used on Friday night.
This motion was seconded by Mr. J. r
T. Mishoe and the vote was taken and r
carried. All of the Council present t
voted for the Hall to be used on Friday
night with the exception of Mr. (
W. H Winbourn. When those on
posed were called for, Mr. Winbouin ,
did not vote either way. t
After the meeting was over and (
the decision of the Council had become
known, the young men, who b.ud t
arranged to get the Hall, went ahead .
with preparations for the dance. c
The petitions presented at the meet- (
ing are printed in order with the
names signed to them:
Petition by Mothers.
We, the mothers of the Town of
Conway do earnestly petition the
Mayor and Town Council to pass .?neh
rules which will prohibit the use of
the City Hall for public dance*.
We feel that there is a groat moral
issue at stake in this matter at the
beginning of the fall and winter seasons;
and that such measures as requested
above will go far towards f
solving the great .problem of correct ^
morals in the lives of our boys and ,
girls. *
