Great Facts Which Show Natural
Advantages of Our
Section
VERY RICH TOBACCO LANDS
Have Bigger Bank Accounts
and Owing* Less Debts
Than Other Counties
Those who wish to make ('onway
and Horry county grow will do all
they can to advertise our advantages.
It is now being told far and wide
that the people of Horry must be in
good and prosperous condition for the
1 eason that the bank statements published
in the Herald recently tell the
tale which proves beyond a doubt
that the people of this county are the
owners of good and strong bank accounts.
A fact like that should be told for
the good it will do in county and town
building.
Again it is said that the farmers cf
Horry county are in better condition
than the farmers of Marlboro for the
reason that there are fewer o: them
who failed to pay their fertiliser debts.
This is another fact which shows what
a great place we must have in this
county for the farmer and laboring
man to make a living and get something
ahead for a rainy day.
This county has the advantage of
good tobacco lands on which fine
grades of leaf may be produced. This
kind of soil is not found in many of
the other counties of South Carolina.
This is one of the great advantages
which we should tell to the world and
thus induce good farmers to move
into Horry where they can have a
greater choice of crops to plant for
money crops; and in that way we can
build up our waste lands, increase our
assessed valuations and run up the
price of our own lands when we have
to otter them for sale.
4 "Horry county is one of the greatest
places in the stqte for the raising
of cattle. Pastures are worth their
many times over because a good
pasture in this section of the state
will relieve the stock raiser from the
high cost of feeds grown on cultivated
lands for feeding his cattle.
All of these things and a great
many more are the things we wish
to bring to the attention of the people
in the outside world. We want them
to know, believing that when they
know they will come to ns and we
will be made wealthier and more powerful
by reason of having good people
with us.
} A? we said at the beginning of this
article, the way to make this place
grow is to advertise it. jSach individual
business man can and will do his
own part by advertising his own business
and telling the world what he
has to offer in the way se) vice.
All of this will count, an 1 the more
persistently this is done thi greater
will be the resulrs to be obtained.
Ir other words "boost."

Crops of this community seem to
have suffered a real damage as a result
of the recent continued rains.
Farmers are about through with
the tobacco gathering problem and

say they saw Kemp Cooke and Tom

one reported that John T. J.) .mean was

The school situation in Horry seems
to be in some uncertai n condition.
However as the leading women of the
State are taking interest, politically
and otherwise many people anticipate
particular relief in the situation in
the near future.
There is some talk that Mr. John

In this section, Co-operative marketing

BANK SUPPORT
BEING ASSURED
Four Million Dollars More Offered
to The Association
News from Raleigh, N. C., under
date of July 26, showed much progress
in the financial end of the tobacco
association, stating the facts
as lately developed, as follows:
Oliver J. Sands, executive manager
of the Tobacco Growers' Co-operative
Association* at a recent meeting of
the directors at the Raleigh headquarters,
reported that $4,000,000 have
been assured the association in loans
from banks of Virginia and the Carolinas.
J. H. Craig, treasurer of the association,
telegraphed from Florence
that $1,000,000 had been raised from
the banks of South Carolina to meet
the opening of the co-operative mar- '
kets in that state within the next few
days.
Mr. Sands stated other strong lines
of credit are now assured to the association
in addition to that offered
by the banks jn the tobacco territory,
and the $30,000,000 loan of the War
Finance Corporation.
Thorough .preparation has been
made for the opening of the co-operative
warehouses in South Carolina, ,
which are now stationed at every
market of the state. T. C. Watkins,
manager of warehouses for the association;
James H. Craig, treasurer,
and C. O. Dixon, manager of warehouses
for South Carolina, with other
officials of the association met in
Florence last Wednesday to draw up
the final forms of participation, receipts
and other necessary papers to
enable the organized growers to secure
cash advances and additional
credit from the first delivery of-their
tobacco which will take place in a
few days, according to Mr. Watkins.
The fire at Bamberg, which destroyed
the only auction warehouse in '
that town last week, '.eaves another
100 per ceut co-operative market in
South Carolina.
A. M. Dusenberry, a large grower
from Toddville, Horry county, signed
the grower's contract last week and
all reports from the field tell of in- ,
creasing success.
