MYRTLE BEACH
Dr. Fletcher Walton, pastor of the
Methodist Institutional Church at
Myrtle Beach is a native Georgian,
being horn in Haitow County, Georgia.
His father was a minister of
distinction, so there was around him
from infancy an atmosphere of culture
and refinement. Dr. Walton
built wisely upon the foundation that
nature and environment had laid for
him in ordering .that he should he a
son of a cultured Christian home.
Fron earliest memory, l>r. Walton
was surrounded by the choicest literature
of the age, hence, at an early
age he formed the desire amounting
to a passion for research. This desire
controlled him through all his
school and collcge days and became,
even more nronounced when he hecame
an intinerant Methodist preacher.
On the completion of his college
course, Dr. Walton was admitted on
trial into the travelling connection of
the North Georgia Annual Conference.
His advance was rapid, owing
to his unusual educational fitness,
coupled with an unconquerable purpose
to serve his fellow men. He has
filler! some of tho leading appointments
of the church, having served
at I/iGranere. Athens. Part Stmn+I
Atlanta, awl Druid Hills Atlanta.
Besides his pastoral work, he has
served several vears as Presiding
Elder.
At a reasonably earlv a fro in his
ministery. he rece'ved the decree of
Doctor of Divinity. This was an
honor well bestowed by his Alma

under the passionate love of service
for humanity over-taxed his physical
strength and had to stop, temporarily
lor hospital treatment, he
would not have been available for

found Dr. Walton nicely recuperating
from his recent illness, and
asked for his appointment for two
months at Myrtle Beach, knowing
that his profound ministery would ho
a splendid setting for the program of
the yeaiv, to be carried out in the
Institutional Plant at Myrtle Heach. |
Bishop Denny readily made the ap-j
pointment.
Dr. Walton has a wife and two
children. The eldest is a daughter
and the youngest a son. His homo
is 7.r> Briar Cliff Place. Atlanta and.
doubtless will be until the convening
of his Conference in the fall, at whicl
time he hopes to re-enter the pas
torate, which was for the moment
suspended by illness.

Myrtle Beach Hotel. He is ahead
in love with Horry Comity and a.T

second's saw the water coming down
in torrents and solid sheets. They g-ft
to the back door of the coach as quicks

flood of water as it struck tire trestle
they had just passed over, tearing it

down the valley.
The conductor and' engineer" took
steps to stop tlie train-as soon as this
could be done. The- engirt*' ran ofT

but the cars were left in a tilted position,
still clinging to the iron rails.
A frood, such as tin's was, is ait unusual
thing in this county so far as
we know, this section was never visited
by such a thing as this before, at
least the damage was not of the kind
that was caused this tinw to>'the Atlantic
Coast Lino and to the roads and j
paths in that, section of the county, j
Fortunately no persona was hurt in i
the accident. J
By last Friday night the road had
been repaired and trains were cominy
through again, bringing the passengers
and mails.
