LOYALTY TO THE C HURCH
"Thou shalt have good success."
Josh 1:8.
There are many things which arc
considered indispensable to a church's
success; but 1 desire to name one
which is not so frequently mentioned,
namely, loyalty.
The Church is not a building* with
a steeple. It is the body of Christ,
and as such it must be loyal to itself
and loyal to its head. Without loyalty*
our homes would fall apart, our
national life decay, and our churches
become extinct.
1. The very first thing that this
principle includes is loyalty to the
Church's beliefs. There are eternal
verities in God's Word on which the
church is founded. The church may
change many of its working policies,
but it cannot change its principles of
faith. Opinions may be venerable,
but only the truth is divine.
2. In the second place this principle
includes loyalty to the Church's
services. We cannot really consider
ourselves loyal to the church's services
unless we are faithful in our attendance.
The frequent absences and
flimsy excuses of many Christians are
not only deplorable but disheartening.
One of the weaknesses of the
Protestant Church is the lack of attendance.
The cushions of some
churches would be so surprised if sat
on that they would get up and walk
out.
3. This principle includes, lastly,

loyalty to the Church's work. A
church that is not a working church
is not a Christian church. Christ put
ati emphasis on work that has never
been taken off. What, right we have
in believing that few ought to do all
the work in the church, while many
do nothing, 1 cannot tell. And we are
now discovering that those who have
nothing to do in the church soon have
nothing to do with the church. The
spirit we want in our churches is the
spirit that leads us to do all we can
and give all we can. In order to
make this possible, each one must do
his or her part and give his or her
share. Our law of Christian life is
Christian service.?Ilev. W. W. Bustard,

CAN YOU KEEP SWEET AT HOME _
Our religion is measured by the
way we act at home. Our families
usually know us as we really are.
Away from home some oi us put on
company manners.
Does your religion help you bear
with a smile the monotony, the pain
and the struggle of every day life?
KVe can be religious without chui^ch
attendance, but without the church, |
religion would not long persist, and
the church will die unless believers
attend its services. The church merits
your earnest support. Can we
count on you? We need your support.
