SUNDAY SCHOOL GETS INQUIRY From Far Off Louisiana Comes Request for Information on Plans The Conway Methodist Sunday School creates interest far beyond the borders of Horry county. The Hut class has a definite program for spiritual, moral and social uplift. Interesting letters of inquiry as to how the work is being done .ore being received from difTerent sections of the county. Last Sunday the Hut class had an attendance of 100; the entire school showed an attendance of 401, and this goes to show that when father gets out to rhnw?h <lay school the rest of the 'famiiv fol'ow the example. A full family at ounday School means a big attendance record in every department of the school. We copy below one of the interesting letters of inquiry received by the Hut class and reply of the workers here in Conway: Shreveport, La., March 14, 1922 Mr. H. W. Ambrose, Conway Lumber Company, Conway, S. C. Hear Mr. Ambrose: Our representative, A. E. Jones, who visited you a few days ago, told me in a letter that you are interested in Sunday School work and that you are the superintendent of a big Sunday School in Conway. ' v * o and the way you managed it. ^ | Being interested in Sunday School j work in Shreveport and having more ( or less to do with the organization of j our Sunday School in the First Meth-1 odist Church, I just thought 1 would write you and ask you to write me a letter tolling me something about your school and how you run it. \N e are expecting to make some changes in our organization at an early date and I would like to know in detail how your school is organized. CON New Spivey I i We have our own opening exercise, which seems to be quite a drawing card. The men like to sing and we have many songs every Sunday. We also find that the calling of the roll . adds interest. When roll is called ' absentees are noted and members present often obligate themselves to see the absentees during the coming week and try to get them out for the next Sunday. We also appoint each Sunday a hotel and sidewalk committee to round up the boys and bring ; them in. We have a president who presides ' at the class meetings and a full line of other officers and committees. We are very proud of our Hut Bible ' class. It is now fighting teeth and 1 nail the moonshine and bootlegging business in our town and community. About seventy of its members have signed .a resolution to discourage the traffic in illicit liquors to the extent that they will not buy or use any of it for a period of twelve months. We are trying to get the p entire class signed up and will doubtless get many more, if not all. It has been a vitalizing movement in our class. 1 i ri i _ _ Now as to the general ounaay School, A. E. Goldfinch is superintendent of it. He has what is considered a good school, perhaps the best in this conference district, and doubtless he will be glad to write you with reference to his organization. Each department meets for its own j opening exercises with program ar-1 ranged by the departmental superintendent. .all meeting in the main church auditorium for closing exercises. The Hut class is doing wonderful .vork for the men of our town and community. This class is on the job every day in the week and makes its \ influence felt in all lines of moral and social uplift. By order of the Ministers Conference of the Marion District from the 9 to 16 of April, closing with Easter, is set apart for local evangelism in all the pastoral charges in the district. Our church will conform to the order and suitable services will be held during the week proceeding Easter. The Ecclesiastical and Sunday School District Conference will he hold in Conway from April 25-27, 1922. The great Sunday School Rally will he on in the Conway Sunday School the fifth Sunday in April. Lloyd Ford introduced a bill in the House of Representatives which w.ns passed and became a law amending the statute in re Kurd to the powers of judges while holding the courts of general sessions at Conway. The act has been amended so that the judge of the criminal court may grant a judgment by default on any. day of that court whereas before the making of this amendment he could only grant these judgments during the week he was here, beginning on Wednesday, the day on which the court of common pleas was fixed to he opened. This will make it more convenient for attorneys and parties who may lie entitled to judgments by default sooner in the week than they have been granting them in the past. A copy of this hill is as follows: A bill to amend an act entitled, "An Act to Amend Section 25), Code of Civil Procedure, Volume 11, Code of Laws, 1912, relating to the time of the Holding of Circuit Courts of the Twelfth Circuit," by enlarging the powers of the court in Horry county: Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the state of South Carolina: Section 1.?Amend an act entitled an act to amend Section 29, Code of /1i *1 T"> 11 X/l\ll I lUCCUUlCi Y kMUIHC III WMt v i Laws, 15)12, by striking out o:; line thirty-two (32) of said act tho words "Except said courts for tho county of Horry."
