CALL TO PATRONS
The patrons of Green Sea are asked
to meet at the Green Sea schoolhouse
on Wednesday night, February 22, at
7 o'clock for the purpose of nominating
a trustee to fill the place made
vacant by a recent resignation. At
7:30 Superintendent Allen and Miss
Mattie Thomas, State School Community
Organizer, will go to the
meeting and discuss with the patrons
the value of a School Improvement
Association.

he Conway Chamber of Commerce
met with Miss Wil Lou Gray, field
iuent of the South Carolina Commission
on Adult Illiteracy, and C. K.
\llen County Superintendent of Education,
on Monday and Tuesday, and
napped out the details of the "writerour-name"
campaign, which wil! be
put on in Horry County under the
ioint auspices of the State and County
educational forces and the Conway
Chamber of Commerce.

carefuly it was decided that it would

Just as in other important matters
affecting tho host interests of the
town, the chamber of commerce took
up the matter of the contemplated
j change of the express office from the
separate place uptown to the
freight depot, where the agent of
tho railroad would probably attend
o the business of both concerns. At
lust accounts this change had not
been made, .and it will not bo made
without a healing in behalf of tho
people here who want tho two offices
kopt separate as they are now.

Maple Night School reports much
interest. Thirty-five pupils have been
enrolled, eleven of* the number having
attended every session. Thi? is
,*i progressive community as shown by
the fact that the men and women constantly
take advantage of every community.
The trustor are giving hearty
support. Mr. Hump Lorn? is upholding
his record as a leader by attending
school every night. Another
perfect attendance pupil is Mr. Hump
Edge who. though over (>0 years of
age, works in the field ."1! day long
and is then young enough to go to j
school at n'ght. lie is setting a wor
thy example to all young men.
The night school at Mt. Hermon
,has itrown so much that a second
teacher has been employed.

description of "How I Make Lye
Soap," volunteered to bring a "how
cake" next time. We .always look
for a surprise from Mrs. Livingston.
At one meeting we discussed Massey's
Garden Book, the January chapter.
An illuminating argument about
garden peas and lye soan revealed
the following:
1?Mr. Bob Watts boils soap only
on falling tide.
2?Mrs. Livingston ignores the tide.
3?Some plant peas onlv on the
d.'irk o' the moon.
4?The moon doesn't figure in Mrs.
Jones' or Mrs. Marlow'* calculations.
5?Mrs. Ling McDowell was voted
the earliest producer of peas. (Her's
are way up.)
