HASTY WORDS
The man who is slow to speak is
the one who j<ets into least trouble.
Most men hate to take back their
11 -
?ss mey express it. Having
made an assertion they will stand to
it no matter .what the consequences.
They do not seem to remember this
failing on their part before the words
are spoken. . If they would think before
speaking' perhaps they would not
speak.
The quarrel ani?ng business men,
the brawl among the rabble, all come
from this habit of speaking too quick;
and saying things that would not have
been said if the subject had been given
some thought beforehand.
Here is to be found the great reason
for the old sayings, or proverbs,
to the effect that we should look before
leaping, think before spe.uking,
counting the cost before starting to
build, and several others that we have
not the space, here to mention.
The beginning of the New Year is
a good time to form a resolution along
this line. Decide that for the future
you will endeavor to maintain a quiet
attitqjrtc toward what you see and
hear; that you will 'give each subject
that comes to your mind careful
thought before expressing the opinion
wherever that opinion will urate upon
the feeling's or thoughts of others.
Wait patiently for results before Irving
to force them by speaking the
rash word that will make 'i impossible
to retreat without being calle 1 a liar
or a coward. Some .?f the smallest
men we have ever seen ^ore men who
tried to he big by talking big. The
biggest thing about them w."s found
to be their conscientious scruples
against taking ba.*k their word. Such
men need to studv this ides we Mie
trying to convey in this short editorial
this week. By making a new habit
along the line of talk thev will do
credit to themselves by and by in any
community.
Just as it is in other things so it is
in regard to slander. There is a l;sw
against telling things that are false
and with intent to injure another in
character or reputation. Such things
when heard about others must he
studied before repeated. We should
wait and never say the words ihat
tnay subiect us to the penalty of the
law and bring vengeance down
upon us from the one who has been
unjustly wronged.
Ae we have said, the New Year is
a good time to form new resolutions
in this as in other good things. We
hope to see men become more tolerant
of some of the petit annoyances that
arise to bother them. All that they
need to do in many cases of this kind
is to give the rp^ter a little time.
Hasty conduct and hasty words should
be abandoned now and forever. They
do nobody any good and they injure
everyiKHiy, uui ur* on? wihj H?y? ui
does them, the worst of all.

Thoroughness is one of the thitiers
we want to insist on during 1922.
Thoroughness leads to efficiency.
This country is getting hack to
normalcy so fast that it is hard to
remember just how it was a year ago.
Slipshod methods should be left out
entirely in 1022. Such methods should
be replaced by the careful and efficient
kind.
The business that serves will succeed
where I he one that is based on
something else will pass into the discard.
Henrv FoH says that the success
of business this year will depend much
upon the policy of the ret: il traders

must not think in profits too large.

It is beiieved that the tobacco crop
1322 will bo much larger than the
?%op of 1^21 was. Cotton has failed
a money crop on account of the boll
weevil, and because so many will turn
fom cotton and take on moip tobacco
there is bound to be a larger acreage
planted.
o
I had rather have a sure thing on
one crop than several chances to make
.on many things. Taking it all into
consideration, the tobacco plant furnishes
the best thing for every farmer
of this county who has good tobacco
'.?ik!. The boll weevil is too hard a
proposition for such farmers to try
to contend with.
By joining the ranks of those who
arc progressive, in any community,
you will draw your full share of the
general fund of wealth and prosperity.
By staying in the rut, your share will
not be harvested, except by the other
fellow. If you expect to get your full
share of the business and trade that
the community owes you, then you
must l>e prepared to spend your part
of the cost of advertising. You cannot
profit to any great extent by depending
on drawing your share of the
trade from the advertising that the
other I el low does and pays lor.
CALOMEL MAY TURN
ON YOU NEXT TIME
Next Dose You Take May Salivate
and Start World of
Trouble
Calomel is mercury; quicksilver. It
crashes into sour bile like dynamite,
cramping1 and sickening you. Calomel
attacks the bones .and should
never he put into your system.
If you feel bilious, headachy, constipated
and all knocked out, just go to
your druggist and get a bottle of
Dodson's Liver Tone for a few cents
which is a harmless vegetable substitute
for dangerous calomel. Take a
spoonful and if it doesn't start your
liver and straighten you up better
.'\nd quicker than nasty calomel and
without making you sick, you just go
back and get your money.
Don't take calomel! 11 makes you
sick the next day; it loses you a day's
work. Dodson's Liver Tone straightens
you right up and you feel great.
Mo salts necessary. Give it to the
children because it is perfectly harmless
and cannot salivate.?Adv.
