' GOING TOO FAR.
As the people of any nation have
j^ood fortune and grow in numbers
and prosperity, there is a tendency
always for the devil and his works to
X the upperhand. So long as the nation
is poor and striving1 for success in
commerce, agriculture or in the matter
of the trades or even arts, the people
-are mgrossed with all their hearts in
the attainment of success, and they
therefore leave meanness alone . Just
a* soon as they have reached a measure
of success and can afford to idle
away their time while they enjoy all
thai they want of the so-called good
things of this world, the devil and his
plans enter into their heads.
An idle brain is the devil's workshop.
'This old saying is as true today as it
ever was. Just as true now as it was
m days long gone by when the truth of

So long as yoil can keep the young men
and young women of any place interested
in winning success for themselves
along the lines which have been followed
by their forbears, there is little,
if any, danger that they will go astray
from the straight paths of honor and
<dvct?ncy.

arc thankful that there are good forces
ativrayc at work too, even in the commurif&es
of the most successful men

there is no telling how soon, even at
this time, that this country might be
plunged into an era of high and fast
living., the equal of which has never

the Sunday School teachers, the bibl<

avoid the very results that the devi
would like to bring about.
As we grou^ in numbers, even ir
small towns,\?<WTwell as in the large i
aggregationsiof nm>*$nkind, it is more
and more necessary that we should encourage
these influences that tend tc
keep things up to a high standard of
morality and right living. Those whe
are older and have the exeperiencc
must undertake to restrain those whe
are younger. Let the younger set
entirely free with all of the things
they would like to do. and another generation
might bring down the penalty
suffered by the fated cities of ancient
times. We know what they got and we
may rest assured that the same thing
awaits us unless we follow the strict
rules of good conduct and a higli
standard of irood morals everywhere,

tobacco, must make what they can,

The streets ftr^ now sprinkled ill
Conway every morning* before breakfast.
It is a great relief. Paved
streets would make it seventy-five
per cent better.
o
Once we stop regular work it is
hard to get back at it. It does not
pay to stop but always keep up the
pressure in one way or another.
Work has never killed anybody and
never will. Worry may, but work
never.
o
There are doubtless few towns in
this whole country having a railroad
track down the center of the principal
street. Conway enjoys the distinction
of being a railroad town in
the sense that its Main Street has to
take care of the tracks.
o
Those who look upon their work as
a means of accomplishment of the
ends intended by the creator, a means
of advancement so that men mav
carry out the purpose of His creation,
never pet disgusted with their calling
or profession, but always find pleasure
in doing their work better and
better.
o
A vacation is often too costly, both
as to money that has been saved from
past labor and as to the time that is
lost about it and no labor done. Wishing
to take the vacation we often see
that the man or woman often wants
to quit work long before the time to
get ready for it. Then when the vacation
is over they want to neglect
the farm or the store for still another
week or more getting "unready."

The railroad track was laid along:
