VISITING AT SUMM1CRTON".
Rev. M. W. Gordon and family are
visiting friends and relatives in Summerton,
S. C., this week. There will
he no preaching: in the Baptist church
either Sundav morning or Sunday
night, July 17. 1021
WILL START ON
LOWER END
- I
The bui'dirg of tho national high-*
ways through this county contemplates
the cor pVfion of a pood hard
road throughout the entire width
from North to South.
The forces are now at work on the
road from Green Sen to Nichols, and
they vef have t > finish the road between
Home wood and Bayboro after
they have* frone through to tho county
line in tho direction of Nicho's.
After the read has been finished
from Homewood to Bayboro, then the
work will be started on tho link between
Conway and Port Harrelson,
or some nearby point to Port Harrelson
as the commission may decide at
lh:?t time.
It seems undecided whether , the
new roa l w ill* follow the bed of the
present road connecting Conway and
Port Harrelson, or whether it will be
vx. ?->wi i ic exient and go
through the neighborhood of the Evergreen
school or Greenwood church
md from there towards Pauley
Swamp. The chances are in favor of
the old roadbed leading by Pot Bluff,
Foddville Avenue, Klondike, and
hence to the ferry at Port. Harrels'on.
If the road is deflected and
>ui!t practicn !y row, then the crosstig
of the Pee Dee will be made with
i bridge some distance above what is
mown as Hell Gate on that river? ,
A.ot as bad ? place as its name would
mply.
