BASEBALL FRI- |
DAY AFTERNOON
Sunday School Classes of City
Will Cross Bats at Court
House Grounds.
On Friday afternoon of this week
at four o'clock on the court house
{{rounds will be played one of the
most sensational, startling*, staggering
and stupendous baseball games
that ever brought cheers from frenzied
and peanut-eating fans. The
Hut Class of the Methodist Church
and the Annex Class of the Baptist
Church will cross bats in mortal combat,
with the Presbyterians officiating
as umpires, referees, water carrier.*-,
stretcher bearers, first aid
specialists and ambulance men.
Manager Watson of the Hut Class
does not mind admitting that he has
gotten together a bunch of youngsters
who will give the immersion
crowd a run for their money. That
peerless southpaw, Babe Ambrose,
is limbering up his wing behind the
sheds of the Conway Lumber Company,
preparatory to assuming mound
duty, if the services of a port wheeler
should be needed. There is a merry
contest going on for all positions <n
the team. It seemes that Cyclone
Sparks and Bean McCoy will be
chosen to do the receiving. Among
contenders for out field positions of
the Hut team are Jack Atkinson, who
mode a brilliant record last season in
the lOpworth League, Shoeless Joe
Dawse.v, known througout the country
as "'The Player with the Inger.'ol1,
Movement," Charlie Scarborough, inventoi
of the general delivery, and
ma o her. too humorous to mcntii r.
All of this information is confirmed
by Manager Watson, who will not.
however, disclose any tiling further in
connection with his team, e.\cept to
say that it will luck the game av ay
under raps.
Coach McMillan of the Anno:. CI; ...
when interviewed V>.v your ropreso it:
live, was extrcmly non-committal.
The old scout stuck a l>i,i?- black cis;i
in the corner of bis mouth and s?.id
"My policy is to show 'em, not te !
'em". The sterling; leader of the Llaptist-;
did not admit, however, that ho
had in training some of the stars of
present and by gone days who could
bang the old horse hide on the nose
and cavort themselves on the diamond
with the grace of a dancing master.
Pounding his fist vigorously on the
soda fountain, his face red from the
effects of a bottle of ginger ale, the
sly old fox let slip a few names
and facts that would not have escaped
him, but for the loo.-.oning of
his tongue by the fumes of the ginger
ale.
"There's Joe Dusenbury, a man
who has forgot more base ball than
John Watson and his crowd will
ever learn. Nature fashioned hint
for a first baseman end the sicl;
room's gain is the diamond's loss
What's the matter with 'Girth' Jenkins?
He has been pitching horse
shoes out behind his lwery stables
so long that an average size hone
plate will look as big a bain door.
Can you beat Old Man Stuffy My
ron Gordon for short stop limit
