DORSEY GOODS f

Beginning Next Saturday at

Prices Will be Based on Whole
sale Prices of Such Goods
at This Time
Readers will find in this issue :?
large advertisement telling of the
opening of a big sale at Adrian,
South Carolina, of the stock of good?
of W. J. Dorsey.
W. J. Dorsey, an Adrian merchant,
who has been running a general
store at that place for a num-.
ber of years, made an assignment
to S. M. Allen on January 17th,
1921. He is " indebted to the amount
of $12,000 in 'round numbers, but of
this large amount there is $7,000
due to the Armour Fertilizer Works,
whose goods Mr. Dorsey handled as
Agent for the past several years.
In the fertilizer business he would
make sales to the farmers and take
their notes and crop liens, securing
the price of the fertilizer. There
is due to him, as he claims, in billsreceivable
something over $8,000, but
something like $5,000 worth of these
bills receivable are made up of these
farmers' notes | and have been turned
over to Armour Fertilizer Works,
'is they were taken in the name of
l bo works and really belonged to
them.
Soon after this failure some of
the loading creditors* attempted to
compromise with Mr. Horsey. I hey
offered to take fifty cents on the
dollar for their debt and offered to
let him pay such portion of it now J
as he was able and take whatever j
time he wanted on payment of the I
balance. Mr. Dorsev offered oniyi
twenty-five per cent and this offer j
so far has been refused by the credit j
ors. Beginning on Saturday, April !
23rd, at the usual hour for opening;
the stores at Adrian, the stock of i
merchandise, which amounts to eight j
thousand dollars worth, will be of-1
fered to the purchasing public at
retail and also in small lots to suit 1
the ideas and pocket books of the
uersons who will cjiII at the store to j
buy goods they need. j
J. L. Bell, of Bavboro, will be the J
(ieneral Manager of this store and ;
it will run for several weeks if notlonger,
just as long as the proceeds j
of the sales will warrant the ex-1
pense. Assisting Mr. Bell will be j
Miss Ada Horsey, who is familiar,
with this stock of goods and will
understand how to serve the people.

Dry Goods, Notions, Shoes, Overalls, Shirts, Dress Goods
Hats for All the Family, Canned Goods, Store Fixtures
All to Go Regardless of What They Cost.
This immense stock of merchandise will be turned loose on the purchasing
public beginning on the date above stated and will be sold regardless of what
i l r i 11 ? - - -
the goods cost. 1 hese goods were purchased when goods were high and we
wish it distinctly understood that the amounts they cost will not now be regarded
as cost in determining what they will be sold at; but these goods will
be sold from the standpoint of what they would sell for at wholesale on the
markets at this time. For instance, a pair of shoes that cost $6.00, if they can
now be bought at wholesale for $3.00, this lower amount will be the basis on
which the prices will be fixed. Many of these goods will go for much less
than what they are selling at by wholesale on the markets now.
These goods are bankrupt stock, but this does not mean that they are anything
less than standard quality. It means only that they must be sold in
order to give to the creditors of Dorsey as much as they can expect under the
circumstances of such a sale.
J. L. Bell, who is well known to the people of Bayboro, Gurley and

Miss Ada Dorsey, who is quite familiar with the stock of goods and the prices
at which they were purchased. As much help will be called in as needed to
take care of the many customers who will no doubt come to this sale from the
very beginning in order to purchase what they need before the stock is all
looked over and the best picked out.
