Mr. and Mrs. Brooks Thompson, Bucksville, February 28,th, a girl. ?o PATRIOTIC TARTY AT METHODIST PARSONAGE Despite the bad weather the Patriotic Party at the Methodist Parsonage on the evening of February 2.1st was largely attended and was a crowning success. The national colors, with a goodly number of hatchets and cherries were used very effectively in the decorations. Miss Lena Johnson and Mr. Cordie Page, who impersonated Martha and George Washington, bid the guests welcome and added much to ' he pleasure of the evening. Dr. Atkinson made a short patriotic address. The games and contests were all of the mirth-provoking kind. The fun began with a "broad grin" race, and the broad grins put on for this race did not come off during the entire evening. The local committee received quite a neat sum from the "birthday pennies" and will use this money in local work. The committee consisting of Mrs. B. T. Hyman, Mrs. D. G. Spivey, Mrs. Hal H. Busk and Miss Johnnie Atkinson, were dressed as Colonial dames, and looked after the entertaining and serving of refreshments. o MISSIONARY SOCIETY MEETING. The literary rnd social meeting of the Woman's Missionary Society of the Methodist church was held Monday afternoon at 4:00 o'c'ock at the nome of Mrs. J. K. Stalvey. An interesting program was furnished by Circle No. 1. A speei.'l collection was taken for the Chinese sufferers and $60 raised. Cards for the annual pledge were distributed and a gratifying amount pledged. Three new members were v/elc med into the society. Dainty refreshments were served by the hostess, assisted by her sister, Mrs. Ludlow, of Carmins, Iowa. ?Johnnie Atkinson, Publicity Supt. o MRS. COLLINS .ENTERTAINS. On last Saturday afternoon at four o'clock, Mrs. M. W. Collins most delightfully entertained a number of her friends at bridge. On arrival of the guests, they were conducted into the living room, which was ablaze with colors of green and gold. A wreath of beautiful jonquils on table and mantle formed a very artistic effect. The score cards, which were n work of art by the hostess, were decorated by hand-painted jonquil?. After an interesting game, Mrs. George Palmer was j presented with an exquisite cut glass vase, for making the highest score. The connoia-, tion prize, a beautiful table cover of black and gold, was awarded to Mr?. A. M. Burroughs. Miss Edna Taylor then gave a beautiful selection on the piano, folowed by a number of very appromate jokes, read by Paul Holliday. The president then called for re>orts of the literary critic and censor, after which the society adjourned. MUSIC RECITAL GREAT SUCCESS On Friday evening, February 25th, ,he music class of the Burroughs' High School,. under the supervision >f M,vs Laura Jenkins, gave a deig! tful reii'al in the Auditorium. The stage was beautiful with soft1 ights and decorations of daffodils; *nd ferns. t The program was well planned and delighted the large audience.! Each pupil acquitted himself well1 and showed thorough preparation.
