COLORED PEOPLE
TAKEIN THE FAIR
Last Friday, the last day of the
fair, was colored ueoole's dav. and
it brought to Conway one of the
largest crowds of them we have ever
seen here at one time. There were
farmers and workers of almost every
kind from all sections' of the county.
There was good order throughout the J
day, and the day was thoroughly enjoyed.
This is the first time in the history
of the fair association that a
day has been set apart for the bene*
fit of the colored race, and the first
time proves that it is good for them,
and that they will appreciate it.
BOX SUPPEK.
There will be a box supper and
program at Enterprise School on
Friday night, Nov. 19. A good time
is promised all who come. The public
is cordially invited.

the' public can now be served in a
very convenient manner.
The station is located on the lot
next door to the Town Hall. A new
cement sidewalk has been laid in
front of the building and there ure
two passages underneath the shed
for the use of automobiles. As
passages have been paved with a
good grade of cinders. As these passages
are located, cars may pass
from Main street underneath the
shed, and go on out in the opposite
direction to the alleyway which leads
across from Main street to Laurel
street. Just now there is but one
gasoline filling tank in the plant, but
another will soon be located near the
front of the building, and when this
has been done, two automobiles may
be served at the same time. Lubricating
oils and air for the tubes are
being furnished. A gasoline engine
has been installed inside the building
and will keep the pressure tanks
ready at all times to supply air for
tires.

Bad breath is Usually the Result

Over eating and lack of care of

SOUTHERN FARMS
NEED A VARIETY
Great Improvement Made By
Raising Many Crops
on Farms
LAND OCCUPIED .
THE ENTIRE YEAR
This is the Way to Put Things
on the Move Throughout
the South.
I
Farm conditions in the South can
be improved by the use of greater
variety of crops and definite systems
of crop rotation and by the keeping
of a greater number of live stock, according
to specialists of the United
States Department of Agriculture in
Farmers' Bulletin 111?) recently issued
and now available for distribution.
A rational crop rotation in
the South is one which occupies the
land practically the entire year, protecting
the soil from washing during
the winter by the use of a growing
crop, such as crimson clover, vetch,
or grain. Increasing the number of
livestock requires the production of
more grain for feeding. Full-grown
grains combine the two essential
features, grain production aikL soil
cover, in one crop. To s?mc extent
they also supply a third desired
feature, winter pasturage.
The advantage of fall seeding of
oats over spring seeding wherever
the fall-sown varieties can oe grown
are numerous. The yields are usually
better, the fall-sown oats mature
earlier, the land can usually be prepared
in better shape in the fall than
in the spring, fall seeding interferes
less with other work than does spring
seeding, poorer land and less fertilizer
can be used for the fall-sown
crop furnishes a cover for the soil
(during the winter and prevents wash
ing.
Fall oats almost invariably yield
more than spring oats, owing to their
earlier maturity, stronger growth
and greater freedom from disease. If
a part of the stand is lost from winter
killing, the plants which are left
stood vigorously, so that the stand at
was apparent in early spring. Fullharvest
is often much better than
sown oats usually grow more vigorously
and mature from bn f/?
weeks earlier than those sown in the
spring. This earlier maturity often
marks the difference between sue
cess and failure, as tus later maturing
grain is more likely to be injured
by storms or drought and by
rust and other plant diseases. Oats
require comparatively cool weather
for their best growth, so that those
which mature earliest usually yield
jbest, as the conditions are better
suited to their development. Too early
[maturity incident to fall seeding also

Clerk of Court W. L. Bryan was
engaged last Thursday in going on
with the hearing in the case of Isac
L. Lee, plaintiff, vs. E. Hamp Hardwick
and others, for the foreclosure
of several mortgages given by the
defendants to the plaintiff. The date
had been continued from a date several
months ago when all of the testimony
had been taken except one
or two witnesses on each side who
were not present then.
The hearing was finally concluded
last Thursday but was continued until
a few days later for the purpose
of examining a third witness who had
not attended the hearing, as was expected.
The case is rather interesting
because the records show a number
of mortgages against this land,
or parts of it, all given by the defendants,
or their brothers, since the
making of certain deeds from their
father to them several yaers ago.
