GOVERNOR APPOINTS
/ TIME FOR HEARING
The Herald received a telegram
last week from Governor K. A i
Cooper stating that the heari* i
would be held in his office on Tuesday
01 this week at noon in relation'
to the petitions in his office, one for
the proposed new county of Derham,
and the other for the annexation ol
Floyd s township as a part of Marion
county.
Similar messages, we understand,
were sent out from the governor's
offices to the Conway Chamber of
Commerce and to other interests.
As we understand it, the first step
that will be taken by Governor Cooper,
granting that the petitions are
sufficient in form and number of
signers, will be to appoint commissioners,
who will be in favor of and
opposed to the new county and to the
annexation, in equal number; and j
that it will be the duty of the commissioners
to pi^ss on these important
proposed changes in the territory
now contained within the lines
of Horry county.
We may be able to publish furthei
news about these matters in tills
same issue of the paper.
