Some men learn faster out of
school than they do in it.
The wiping out of ignorance Is
one important job that we have in
this state.
o
There is more money i circulation
since the war than ever in the j
history of the country., and it has (
been worth less than ever before.
o
The change of seasons usually
brings symptoms. The plan of
many is to rush to the medicine
bottle, others to get a prescription;
but in the long run. they get over
their troubles, real or imaginary, as I
soon as the weather has settled
down.
o
There is a woeful lack of knowledge
on the part of many of the
people of the most ordinary thinirs
that we see and come in contact with
One reason is because some people
will not study or read. The
daily and weekly newspaper is a
thing never seen in their homes
They never look between the lids of j
n hi hip I
o
One of the costliest things this
country now has to do is to enforce ;
the prohibition laws. In wot states, !
according- to the report of the com- j
missioner, there is no such thing as
absolute dryness. A shortage of
funds to enforce the law is named
as one reason. This means that
whereas this country formerly took
in a large revenue from the liquor
traffic it must now spent great
sums the other way. j "

NEEDS
LAW AND ORDER
One thing this country needs
right now more than ever, is the i
observance of law anil order. The
reaction following the war was
slow in ooming on, and will be slow
in# going off. Past history proves
that periods following wars, especially
in the countries involved,
have been marked by waves of
crime to more or less extent; hence
it was to be expected that in the
United Satets there would be chang- I

they are living, and toward each,

What may happen vet is within the

DELIVERIES BY TRUCK!
The readers of the Herald have
no doubt noticed the full page advertisement
printed in this paper by
Mr. Dan W. Winstead, who is running
a large furniture business on
the coroner of Third Avenue and
Laurel Street under the name of
"Winstcads." The business is conducted
in a- brick store erected by
Mr. G. B. Jenkins some years ago.
Recently it was remodeled on the
inside and makes very nice quarters
for this enterprising concern.
He has in stock a large line of furniture

Mr. Winstead was formerly located
at Mull ins, where he conducted
a successful furniture business.
It is evident that the business is increasing
in the County.

THE WF.ALTH WORTH WHILE
I longed for wealth to hold it;
I longed for might and fame:
My youth? I shrugged, and sold it
To triumph in life's pame.
I toiled and toiled unceasing,
To win my place, but when
l gained tne tiling 1 uoiiecl lor,
i did not want it then.
For then I found life's flowers,
All fadod at my door;
I found the springtime showers
Less cooling than befo?e;
I found the vcrv sunshine
Had lost its gleaming light.
And that the stars' were pallid
That lit the world at night,
1 longed for wealth to hold it.
1 longed for might and fame;
But when?I eould unfold it,
I found it just a name.
