Sheriff J. A. Lewis received a
telegram late last week from L. R.
Ambrose, Chief of Police at Georgetown,
asking that Snow Bellamy bo

posed to be the men who held up
, and robbed Preston Curry recently. I
W. J. Johnson went to Georgetown
with Bellamy and two of the
men had left and gone to Marion.
The third man, who v as still in
Georgetown, could not he identified, j

Harrelson is the owner of a very
valuable farm which is located one
mile from Green Sea. and one mile
from Finkley's Cross-Roads. He has I
one hundred acres of land in culti-;
vation and i* planted this year in!
cotton, tobacco and corn and other
crops.
Mr. Harrelson was first elected
to the office which he now holds in
the year 1900. Since that time he
has held the affice constantly, with
exception of one or two terms, when
George M. Fowler was electea. only j

that lie-was not Magistrate he conducted
a collection business, which
at times was large, and extended
even outside of his home Township.
He has filled the office for all tl;ese
years with efficiency and has given

he has married at least 600 couples.

endorse him in his race for reelection.

injuries can be avoided by vigilance
and vigorous action on the part of
the grain growers. Insect outbreaks
frequently originate w.'tHin
limited areas, and when this is the
case it often is possible to stamp
them out before any great damage
has occurred. In otner instances
the outbreaks are of general origin,
and then community action is essential
in order that the inroads of the
pest may be overcome. The most
serious insect enemies of ccreal
crops, such as the Hessian fly, the
chinch bug, and white grubs, belong
to the latter class. In either of
these and other widely distributed
foes of the grains no means of stopping
their ravages will be fully successful
until community action can
be secured in adopting the methods
of combat at present advocated by
entomologists.
Fall plowing doubtless is the most
universally beneficial practice for
the control x>f the insect pests of ccreal
crops, and this measure should
be adopted except where it is rendered
impossible by local agricultural
conditions. Cora never should be
planted on freshly broken sod land.

to expose the crop to the ravages
of cutworms, wireworms, an 1
white grubs. Crops belonging: to the
bean family, such as cowpe/is, soy
beans, clover, alfalfa,, etc., may be

and corn, in order that injury to
the grain crops by these pests
may be avoided.

The Herald building is being finished
as rapidly as circumstances
will permit. The brick walls were
completed several weeks ago and
prepartitions were made last week
for laying the concrete floors.
Changes in the end wall of the old
building will take up some time;
but the Herald hopes to have the
new building ready for occupancy
within the next fortnight.
