U.SJO ASSIST |
AGAINST PLAGUE
Washington.?The United States <

assistance of Mexico in the fight | j
against the bubonic plague, now i
spreading in the Vera Cruz district.
It was announced that Dr. Carl <

at Key West, left for Vera Ciuz "to j
render his serv-'ccs in preventing and {
stopping tire bubonic plague." \
Dr. Michel's first concern will be \

[ There are three or four cases of

j formation received at the public J
j health service headquarters here. A 1
{ serum and innoculation now is being i
| used to prevent its spread. Later,
i a vigoious drive will be made to rid
| the community of rats, the carriers
i of the plague. j
Since the plague was first dir.- t

were tightened. For years, it is (
stated, ships arriving at American ' .
ports from Mexico have undergone 1 j
careful inspections, and a close watch I ^

I across the border from Mexico.
1 The. e precautions will he extended
and made as drastic as is deemed
necessary to insure c .mplete safety ,
for the United States from t'e
plague.
Dr. Michel attained quite a considerable
fame during the influenza 1
epidemics, when he aided in check- <

coast. He used an airplane in i
making his rounds, and is said to j
have been the first physician to 1
