REASONS FOR NO HOUSES.
All over this country, at this time,
the cry is for more houses, houses
in which to live above all, and houses
in which to do business. Theie
appears to bo new business, and
ulso old business, all wanting either
new places in which to operate, or
wanting now places and additions to
old places. There is no end to the
need. Yet there is no reasonable
way in which the owners of capital
can be brought to see where they
would bo justified at this time in
making investments in either homes
to live in or business houses in
which new business firms may open
business. One of the first things
they meet is the high cost of materials,
this cost being out of all
proportion with the amount of rents
that they might charge; and the
next thing is the impossibility of
getting materials on time when they
are needed; and still another thing
is the high cost ol labor and the impossibility
of obtaining that when it
is needed to do the work. It goes
without doubt that the progress of
this country is now being held back
"by these things, and it is only the
people themselves who can bring
about a change.
o
Those who read the newspapers
always think that it is an easy
thing to prepare the motter that
goes into them and to serve it up
in attractive style for hungry minds;
but here they are mistaken as the
public almost always is when they
form ideas while using things.
There seems to be a determination
on the part of the opponents of the
stock law to fight things out to a
finish in the coming primary. They
will make every effort to send men
to the Legislature who will favor a
repeal of the general stock law as
applied to this ccunty, and they may
-succeed.
o
It is to be noticed that the men
who favor the doing away with the
free range, are those who have quit
raising stock in -be woods and have
Tmir?/1 t Y\ 11 t it *r? Knef i t\ IUa
J V/UliXI viiUV IV O uv Ot I'V IWC|^ VI I
stock up. That is what they say.
o
There arc men among the people
who will resist any move to make
changes in the old ways of doing
things. That kind always existed
and always will. In some cases we
see benefits showered upon people
against their will as it were.
n
It does not pay to take things too
much for granted. Investigation is
better than taking somebody's word
only to find that it is too late to
take some other course.
o
Any body of business men in any;I
community can do great things for
the progress of their community so
long as they stick together and plan
together, then all pull together to
bring about the results they want.
