RECEIVED A LETTER
Young- Men in Conway Came
to Tanner's Aid When he
Was Prosecuted.
Nelson F. Tanner, who was in
trouble in the .Magistrate Court here
some weeks ago was discharged by
the Magistrate from all of the
charges brought by J. E. Nicholas,
except one check of $7.00 upon
j which 1 e was held. He was to have
been tried for breach of trust on
1 this check about the time of the
epidemic of influenza and the ca e
was postponed, and at the secon 1
date for the tral it was put off for
still another cause.
In the meantime Tanner left Con*
way two or three weeks ago and
nothing was known of him here until
last week there appeared in the
Daily State an advertisement in the
classified columns reading* as follows:
"Man Wanted for larceny, name Tan
ncr; mechanic, weight loO, short,
dark hair, small eyes, blond complexion.
Regimental insignia tattooed
on left fore arf; wearing
green suit, light cap. Left last
night. D. II. Williamson, Chief of
Police, Mullins, S. C."
The following letter was received
by Mr. Nicholas;
j "Holland, N. V., Feb. 18, 1920.
"J. E. Nicholas,
"Conway, S. C. g , .
"Dear Sir:
"Seveial weeks ago I had a letter
from my son, Nelson F. Tanner,
who was at your city, and he gave
me instructions to write to him care
of you. We have mailed to him sev
eial letters but unable to get any
reply. Will you please advise me
whether he is with yen at the p.es.
ent time? If 1 do not hear from
; him, 1 would like to keep track of
> the boy if possiide. Any informa
tion that you will [five to me, (
would be very glad to receive.

"When Tanner became involved in
the Ma {.vallate Court here the bay.of
the American Legion came to his
aid and stoo 1 for a boa'fl bill tha
he owed at the Kingston Hotel, and
it is said tlr.ew in funds to help
him cut and able 1 him in securing
bail.
