Some of the days of last wock
were as cold as this section has
experienced the whole Winter.

There was a collision at the
comer of sixth Awenue and Elm
Street one day last week, between
Messers. Ross Johnson and Mr.
Hewett. The latter was driving a
Ford car and sustained considerable
damage to his machine. It is said
that Mrs. Hewett, who was riding
with him at the time, was thrown
out over the side of the car.

E. J. Glanz decided recently to locate
an agency in this county for
the sale of Mitchell automobiles and
had space in the Herald beginning
in last week's issue. Mr. Glonz is
well known to the people of this
section having lived near Conway
for some time and afterwards working
in the county for some of the
leading lumber companies.

Make a better grade of tobacco
this year and cut the acreage if
this is what has prevented you from
curing a nice bright grade in yearsgone
by. Low grades will have to be
given away this year as they were
last year.

WORSE IN COUNTRY.
The influena has been worse in the
:ountry than it has been in the town
this time, contrary to the course of
the disease in 1918. Cases continued i
last "week to be reported in various
families in the surrounding c unt y ]
and for a time seemed to be cn the 1
increase; while in Conway only a
few cases were reported.

INFLUENZA INCREASED
The latter part of last week r;
was stated from seven'1 sources that
the number of cases of influenza was
still on the increase in many of the
country districts. The Herald did
not hear of any deaths from the disease,
but some of the cases of it
were reported as rather serious.

Reports from Aynor the la'ter
part of last week were to the effect
that one of the physicians there reported
that he was attending fifteen
different cases of influenza. The
Herald could not get in touch with
the other physician at Aynor so that
no statement could be obtained from
rim as to nis patients. JNone or
these cases, according to the physic.'an,
were serious in nature, except
Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Best, and it wa^
stated that a colored man living on
Dr. Rogers' place at Galivants Ferr>
was critically ill with the disease.

The passage of the stock law to
yond the control of our Senator and

purposes, and the use of trucks for

grow, so that there is a big amount
of business waiting in this line for

CHANGES IN IHTCK BUILDING.
Several alterations were recently
made in the second floor plans of
the Buck Building on the corner of
Main Street and 3rd Avenue. A new
stair case was provided of the largStreet
loadin to several of the larger
rooms, while a new coat of p^int
and varnish was added to the interior
finish.

Gordon Duscnbury, young son of
Mr. and Mrs. 0. B. Du-cnbury, while
in company with Paul Holliday and

SC HOOL IS CLOSED.
News reached Conway a few days
ago of the closing of the Horry Industrial
School owing to the epilemic
of influenza. One of the
teachers of the school was taken and
it was thought that other cases
would develop unless precautions
were taken.

near the Post Office and between

Store of J. E. Nicholas. It has
been rearranged on the interior and
nicely painted. The members of the
firm are L. A. Pcrmenter and Ben
nie Graham. Mr. Pcrmenter is a
leading travelling salesman for a
Baltimore house, while Mr. Graham
lias had a long experience as one of
the head salesmen of the Burroughs
& Collins Co. Mr. Graham is a finewindow
decorator and understands
