THURSDAY, FEB. 26, 1920.
When in doubt about how to spend
the surplus cash, just put it into new
improvements on the farm.
o
The experience of last year in,
handling the tobacco raised in the||
county ought to be enough to teach.
us a lesson in preparedness. j
o
A new pack house and a new corn
crib are improvements that will add
greatly to the value of any farm and
turn out a profit to the owner every
year.
*
o
You cannot do business without
the right buildings to do it in; and
the farmers cannot make money out
of their tobacco without the right
kind of buildings for handling it
and taking care of it.
<i
Conway needs the combined efforts
of all the business men and the far-"
mers of the county to help provide
in the town the necessary building?
and equipment to take care of the
annual tobacco crop.
o
Tobacco farmers in the old tobacco
belt in North Carolina and other
States, do not have to sell their leaf
tcbacco until the conditions of the

reason they do not have to sell is
because they have the necessary
buildings for storing and keeping the
tobacco as long as they want to do
so.
There is no telling what an acre
of good tobacco land is really worth.
Cotton a very important thing
to the people of the world and the
boll weevil is succeeding in cutting
it off. This section can depend on
l<r:.^bacco as a money crop but a great
many of the growers of the weed)
-4?re without Experience in raising the 1
right grades.
o
The tobacco growers of Horry
County are easily divided into two
classes: Those who know how to
raise a bright grade that brings
good money, and those who have not
bothered to learn anything about the
growing of a good grade and consequently
get nothing for their product.
There is a way for them to
remedy this and they know what it
is.
o
WILL BRING GOLD.
There was an article in our last
issue dealing with the statements of
a visitor here about the growing of
tobacco in Horry County and the
great opportunity enioyed by the
giowers of the county. "What he
says is a fact if the planters will
tut take advantage of what is within
their reach. They are independent
of the boll weevil, provided they
are prepared to raise for the markets
the bright leaf that is worth
almost its weight Sn gold.

himself facing penalties for failure
to pay his tax on time.

JOY AND YOUR JOR

Maybe you're one of the famous
few,
Maybe you're one of the moiling

But it's Tittle the difference what
you -do,
If you put Joy into your job.
And the joy comes back to others
and you
With a zest which shall long: re

For it8 quality lingers through and
through
As a wood is marked of its grain
The rewards of the world are par

In a crude, rude way we may no

For we give a crown to a crazy

While a shivering genius gnaws a

The only reward which none may

Is the everyday effort to make secure
