While the institution has recently

THE HORRY HERALD, CO]
WILL DO PART.
The tobacco companies have offered
to render material aid in tho
erection and maintenance of suitable
prize houses and drying rooms for
leaf tobacco lieic at Conway; but a
1 certain amount of the capital must
be put up by the warehouse companies
before the t bacco factories
will agree to do anything; and so
far the home capital remains in hiding
and does not come forth.
HARDER THAN EVER.
It is harder than ever in the hl>
tcry of this part of the country to
keep the common labor that is need
ed to run hotels, stores, and different
kinds of factories. There seems
t*. be a general unrest among the?
workers of that class, and it is likely
to take drastic action on the ?n t.
of those who furnish that kind of
employment, before any change
comes about.
? ?
PRODUCES NOTHING.
There is a class of labor floating
about that never produces anything
of its own accord, does not work
regularly, but knocks about from
one small job to another as, the
money gives out. As they produce
nothing, they cannot obtain food
, without the funds to buy it with;
and one man has suggested that the
i way to bring them to their senses is
to withhold the food supplies unto
they agree to stick at some regular
work.

NEED PACK HOUSES.
The tobacco growers of North
Carolina, in the old tobacco belt of
that State, as well as the growers
in Virginia and Kentucky, it is said,
do not have to crowd their tobacco
at the warehouses for sale in the
busy season. They keep the leaf
pecked away in the ample stor?;
houses, or pack rooms, that they
have provided for that purpose and
they sell When they get "good and
reaay." That is the way that the
farmers must do here if they would -v
be in position to make money out of
the crop regardless of the rush season
when it is all thrown <opsyturvey
on the warehouse floors in
any kind of style. In order to be
able to meet this condition the farm
crs must save the money and build
the houses they need for taking
cure of the crop at home until it is
the right time to place it on the
market. 1
