PAGE TWO CHICAGO EPIDEMIC IS GROWING WORSE Influenza and Pneumonia Spread at Rate of Over 2,000 New Cases CLAIMS ISOLATION OF INFLUENZA GERM Doctor at Great Lakes Naval Training Station Makes Announcement. Chicago.?Influenza and pneumonia continued to spread in Chifago today at the rote of more than 2.000 new cases every 24 hours after having established yesterday a high death i*ecord for the present epidem ic. One hundred and one lives was the toll of the disease. Prediction of the city health commisMoner today assumed a pessimistic tone. "The contagion probably will continue until it has hit every person, who is not immune to it/' he acaid. Industrial establishments begun co report seriously depleted working forces, some as much as 10 per cent. Health authorities still were struggling with a serious shortage of train ed nurses. The health commissioner recommended that 1,000 nurses on special cases in hospitals be released immediately for emergency work and their places taken by student nurses. Efforts for better sanitation in restaurants and for more heat in surface and elevated cars were renewed.
