Washington.?The Mexican government has been called upon by the State Department to use every means possible to apprehend and punish the murderers of F. J. Roney and Earl Bowles, American oil men in the , Tampico field. Immediately upon receipt of the report of the murder of the two men, the American embassy at Mexico City was instructed to urge the Mexican government to take up prompt , steps to bring the murderers to ju >tile. In an effort to get a.tion also by local authorities, similar instruc- , tiins were sent to the American consul at Tampico. , The dispatch to the State Department said the two men were murdered near Port Loos, and that their , bodies were discovered January They were employees of the Interna- , tional Petroleum Company and were supposed to have had the company's payroll when they wore killed. "Washington.?Gabriel Porter, an American citizen in the employ of the I enn-Mex Company, was shot and killed by a Mexican federal army officer at Tuxpan on Doccmber 21, ac-cording to advices received by thte j State Department from the American ( consul at Tampico. The consul im- < mediately was ordered to. send fur- ( ther information and if the circum- < stances warranted to urge the local . authorities of . the Tampico district to j arrest and punish the quilty person. \ This makes a total of 20 Americans [ killed in the Tampico district by Mex- j icans since April 7, 1917. Eighteen , of them were employees of American s oil companies. t Yesterday the consul at Tampico , reported the murder of F. J. Roney and Earl Bowles, oil men employed ( in the Tampico fields.
