They returned to Georgetown Thursday evening. Policeman Allen recently resigned his position as night policeman of the Town of Comvay and since then the town has been without such an officer. Every citizen agreed that it was a good thing for the people and thei? property to have somebody on the job! throughout the night. The reasons behind the policeman's resignation have not been coin municatedto the Herald, so that thta paper cannot state the reason that he quit. Another good man should be secured for the place as quickly as possible. ?? o APPROACHING WEDDING The wedding of Miss Fannie Dusenbury, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Dusenbury, to Rev. J. M. G. THOMP: SENATOR H. L. BUCK WILL NOTRUN A6AIN The Herald learns from good authority that Senator Hal L. Buck will aot stand for election again to the office of State Senator from Horry County. Neither will he be in politics at all, that is, he will not fill any public office, after his present term t>f office has expired. The reason why the matterv has come up for attention and creating interest just now is because the Legislature convenes the second Tuesday in January when Mr. Buck will be on hand in Columbia to attend Ic his duties as Senator during the last session of his term. During the time that Senator Buck has filled this position he has been very active in the intrndn<?M??r? many U'gP lU* I tive matters to meet tlie changing I conditions of Horry County. He was I especially instrumental in providing | the machinery for a new form of County Government, especially relating to the public roads and the making of better roads in many parts of the County. Quite a quantity of land was sold . here at public auction last Monday which was legal salesday for the Clerk of Court and the Sheriff of the County. Numbers of lots cut out of the estate land of the late W. R. Lewis and lying westward from the court house, were sold to the highest bidders on terms of one-third cash and balance on one and two years time. The place near Bnybora, known as Lewisville was sold to H. H. Wood ward, attorney, for the sum of $2100.00, and was later resold by bin' to W. F. Mi shoe. The L (1. McDaniels tract of land was sold for the sum of $500.00. Various other tracts were sold under orders of court. The weather j was very cold on that day and there j were not many bidders from the country, i DEATH OF MRS. DUNCAN. | Mrs. Duncan, the mother of Mrs. W. A. Freeman, died suddenly here t last Sunday morning soon after tak ing a bath. Her death was a shock tc the entire community, and it is said, was due to heart failure. She had been here for some time visiting in the home of her daughter 1 and was apparently in as goo I | health as usual.
