WATTS I In an article published in the Horrv Herald. Mr. O A1 Watts sav* that he wants me to explain the school law as it applies to others than , the parents of children who are with the limit of the Compulsory Attend- j ance Law. \ I consider that the law applies to , one and all alike so far as it concerns j individuals; the county board of education, officers etc., and this knowledge Mr. Watts plainly implies that ho already has boon fully informed, when ho infers the question that it <s just as binding on the authorities to carry out certain other duties as it is on individuals to send to school in j order to comply fully with the new j attendance law, as this law in a , literal sense docs not apply to parents and children who are three miles an i upwards from an approved school,! and 1 wish to state that 1 have taken census of all the children between th ages of six and fourteen that would be directly or indirectly affected by the territory that Mr. Watts refers U> j and 1 find that there are thirty-six j children in this age in the territoi v j-. _ i but of course, this does not include some who might be sent to school (if established) in this territory, and be' better accomodated by school, that is. to say if there is a school house located where it ought to be, than they are at present. 1 realize that under the circumstances something good should be done for these children right away and hope they can soon get together for the good of all concerned and made a prosperous school somewhere in reach. as there are several children over fourteen that would be greatly benefited by a school nearer them and the same time not materially affect any adjoining, school territory unless some changes are made in the others. I beg to say that I am not fully acquainted with the boundaries etc., of the original Doe Pond District, and through the kindness of Mr. Bullock I beg to say that I examined the records of districts in the office of County Superintendant, and find no trace of a record of any Doe Pond district, the latest record of that school is where Mr. S. H. Brown ha 1 credited this school with a certain amount and 1 have been informed that this amount is still there in the treasury for credit of the origin..1 Doe Pond School. Mr. Bullock has already agreed that if certain dimensions of territory can be made plain that he will then be authorized to take favorable action but just as long as he says he has done all he can do, all concerned may consider that my own hands arc tied also. A groat many things have already been done that arc not in strict keeping with the law. For instancv the Johnson school house in District) No. 58 is located on the side of the j Lake Swamp one and one-half the1 territory surronding the house i- j from the Swamp back northward j and not a single family coming n | that territory to that school. All have1 i to come far and near to make uo a) j school in a very inadequate build- j irjg, from east, west and south. Now, 1 trust that any statement that 1 make will not for one time be considered ot ho mi so than for the good of all concerned and not presented for sake of argument or ccontroversy, for if there be any two men to whom 1 hold out that foreI can install Sanitary Plumbing in any home. If you wish medical advice as to the treatment of your own individual case, write to Chief Medical Adviser, 42 Swift Specific Co., Atlanta, Ga. ever loyal friendship and good will it is Mr. O. M. Watts and Mr. M. J. Bullock. As I have once said I believe that something should be done for these people, I believe Mr. Watts agrees with me, and also Mr. Bullock. I have only suggested a remedy to a few, and one remedy was to take a territory beginning at Mr. M. A. Fhipp's north to a point near Lake Swamp. Then from a point near rrince's mill to a point some distance above Mr. O. M. Watts' and build a school house as near the center of this territory as possible in order to locate the building on a road or where a road could he reasonably buit. All the men with whom 1 have talked this plan say it will work well. Now another suggestion. The Rehoboth school and Flaw Branch school are under way of consolidation. and of locating <" building for these two schools at McQueen Cross roads or nearby ami if that be done .Johnson No. aS should he moved a considerable distance a south east course from where it is now located, and an adequate building prepared and this would place all those concerned within a very reasonable range of school. 1 wish to say in conclusion that I am very busy every day but any T1 JU The Delcc type?used ii engines and biles.
