MISCELLANEOUS SHOWER.
Miss Laura Jenkins gave a Mi-eel-i
laneous Shower Wednesday after- j
noon, November 5th, from 4 to 6
o'clock, in honor of the bride-elect,
M iss Kathleen Sessions. Among
the many parties given in honor of
Miss sessions this was one ol the
prettiest and most unique. The
guests were met at the side door and
taken into the sitting room where a
bulletin board was posted on the door j
announcing the date and time the
Matrimonial tiain Miss Sessions was
taking would leave. Miss Jenkins
then opened the door and asked the'
bride-elect to follow the "Rocky Road
to Matrimony," lifting the rocks and
stones she found in the road, this
road ran down through the hall and
on into the parlor. Jn the brown pallor
bags were found many beautiful
gifts for the bride. After the guest
of honor opened her gifts, Miss Jenkins
invited the guests into the dining
room where she sei-ved a salad
course followed by a sweet course.
Miss Jenkins then gave each of the
girls a piece of paper and asked each
one to use the letters of her own
name and give the bride-elect a few
ideas as how to manage a husband.
These were put into a hand-painted
cover and given to the guest of honor.
IN I'ONOIt OF MISS SESSIONS.

door by the hostess and invited into
the living room whore a social half
hour was enjoyed before lunch was
served.
The dining room was beautifully
decorated in potted plants and cut
flowers, the candles throwing a soft
mellow glow over the whole room.
Hanging from the chandelier was a
huge pink rose hall with ribbons falling
around the center piece of white
chrysanthemums. The place cards
were fastened to a minature heart
fiom the top of which was suspended
a tiny wedding bell. The favors wore

during Hifc bills proposing alternative
plans for a permanent federal shipping
policy. Both; bills wore referred
tc the commerce committee for future
consideration.
With prospective completion of the
government's war shipbuilding^ yro- 9
gram by December 31, 1920, Senator I
Jones said the United States, including
coastwise vessels, will have a A
merchant fleet of about 18,000,000
tons* equal nearly that of Great Brit
uin ami he added, the two nations win
control about two-thirds of the
w odd's tonnage.
To I)o Our Share.
"Wo do not desire and it is not our
purpose to drive other nations off
the sea" said Senator Jones, "but we 1
do want to do and we ought to do at
least our proportionate part of our
own and the world's carrying- trad#;so
that our commerce shall have 11
fair chance in the world's markets,
and that we may hereafter fully j
prepared for any emergency."
Regarding the government's future
shipping policy, Senator Jones said |
about eight million of the twelve million
tons under the American flag in
foreign trade will be governmentowned.
L
"We may differ about government
ownership" he said, "but that can be
no issue here. The government owns
these ships, whether we will or no. |
We must not allow private parties to
take the cream of this shipping and ]
let the government hold thd? balance ,
to dispose of at a great sacrifice.
Grant that government ownership J
should end as soon as may be, it
ought to be brought about as nearly J
as may be without unnecessary sacrifice.
No one can reasonably hope
that private enterprise and capital in
the face of foreign competition and
handicapped by our own inexperience
will be able to absorb and take over
all this shipping in a short while."
