Things are coming to Conway that
some of us never expected.

It is easier to make money than it
is to spend it wisely.

Try to find goodness here and stop
trying to locate it all somewhere else.

Even a little experience will go farther
than bushels of theory, yes, even
in the matter of farming.

Money spent in making new ditches
and fences on the farm is always well
invested.
Experience brings understanding.
Some of the tobacco planters say that
they have learned something this
year.

Say something good for your home
town if you can do it and tell the i
tiuth. If it is impossible under the
circumstances then keep silent.

Time is on hand when an acre of
good tobacco land will sell all the way
from fifty to one hundred dollars anywhere
in Horry County.
o
There is no better chance for good
business anywhere than here in Cjhway
and elsewhere in Horry County.
o
None of us know it all and most of
us realize this. He who thinks he
knows it all is only fooled in his own
estimation. He has nobody else fooled
at all.
o
Now what is the best way to go
about providing better facilities at
Conway for handling the tobacco crop
another year? It is the duty of those
interested in thcindustry, as well as
the duty of all of our business men as I
a whole, to get together on this proposition.

In speaking of a certain farmer as
being successful, you are apt to hear
other people say that he never has to
buy any meal or bacon, and especially
no feedstuff to keep his cow or his
horse. There is a good reason for
this.

A man who has been in business in
any community for a number of years I
and enjoys a good patronage with the
confidence and pctoom of the noonln I
about him; stands in a good way for;
ruin and bankruptcy when he makes'
a sudden break and openly cheats

DKATH OF T. G. LUNDY.
Thomas G. Lundy died on Wednesday,
August 20th, at his homo near
Jordanvillc, S. C., at the age of sevlenty
years. He had been in failing
I health for several months and unable
t?. attend to any work about the
farm. He was buried at Mt. Hermon ;
Raptist Church on Thursday of last
week.
He is survived by his wife and
eight children as follows: Messrs. T.
M. Lundy, R. L. Lundy, H. C. Lundy
and Haddon Lundy of Jordanvillc;
R. Lundy of Conway; Mrs. W. L.
Richardson of Conway, Mrs. Thurlran
Johnson, and Miss Geronic
Lundy of Jordanvillc.
The deceased was an industrious
farmer, which occupation he followed
for a long number of years, and he
was a good citizen.

GOVERNMENT ALLOTMENT
QUICKLY TAKEN UP
By last Friday afternoon most <>f
the articles listed at the Conway
Post Office for sale to the public
from Government stores had been
exhausted as to the allotment provided
for this place. By last Thursday
evening all of the cherries had
been sold out and all of the stringless
beans as well as other articles listed.
The allotment of bacon, canned beef
and pork and beans had not been
quite exhausted last Friday at noon.
It may be that further allotments
will be made by the Government
either from stores on hand for Government
use or from large quantities
seffced in different part of the United
States by Government Agents from
hoarders of food; but nothing of this
kind had been posted up at last accounts.

Cotton seed crushed during the year
ending Juiy 31 amounted to 4,466,028.

TIME HEALS NOT
AN UNKNOWN DEATH
I?'or more than four month's I have
hoped to know where che body of my
beloved and faithful companion has
lain while I huvc so deeply grieved
foi her. The last hope of ever knowing
how and where the' end came
makes my sorrow seem unbearable.
Just the thought of not knowing
when, where and how she gave up
this life, nor what physical pain nor
mental anguish she might have suffcied
before passing away, almost
bieaks my heart. I feel today that I
can not much longer endure the sad
suspense without losing my mind.
Oh, to know where her body lies,
while her soul is resting in the bright
beyond!'
We were married on November 21,
1872, and from that day until March
28rd, 1919, we lived together, sharing
eaih other's joys and troubles. I
know we loved each other as husband
and wife should love, and it was more
pleasure to me to see her enjoying
herself than it was for myself to see
! pleasure.
She was a good and faithful wife,
always ready to do anything she
i could for me. In fact, she did more
for me than I wanted her to do. I
always tried to prevent her doing so
much, but when she persisted, I gave
way to her wishes for 1 always wanted
her to do as she desired. When I
insisted that she take a nap each afternoon.
she contended that she had
toe much to do. To the last, I would
beg her to let her work go and lie
down and rest, but, duty came fir t
with her. Many a peson has said to
me that she was the smartest woman
that ever lived, and I have oft n
thought so myself. She lived for the
good of others. Never was she too
I tired to go and do a kind favor for
j some one.
My home is so lonely and sad.
Through all the years we were together
when business called me away,
no matter what hour I came home,
she met me at the gate. Hut now
when I come home, she is not at the
gate and when I came into the house,
she is not here. While I am writing

see. I am broken up and ruined.
