B the late Kev. James C. Stoll, was born at Little Rock, Dillon Coun- Eg
^ I ty. He graduated at Wofford College in 1897, thereafter com- H
i I pleting a course in Law, was admitted to the Bar in 1901 and be- E
5 1 gan practicing at Kingstree, S. C. P
n In 1901 he was elected a member of the State Legislature fe
R where he served with recognized efficiency. In 1908 he was elec- ?
' Kjj ted County Chairman of the Democratic party and held this posi- L
1 I tion unopposed until 1918, when his absence from the county, lie L
/ R l>eing in the military service of the (Government, necessitated the F
election of a successor. During the most of this time he served
J | also as a member of the State Executive Committee. n
| V In 1908 he was elected solicitor of the 3rd Judicial Circuit, n
1 was re-elected in 1912, and again in 1916 was returned for the r
f | third time to this important position.
B When war was declared against Germany Mr. Stoll offered n
: B his services to his Government, and in September 1917 received j*
B an appointment in the Judge Advocate Department, ranking as L
a Major. His first service was at Boston, Mass., later transferred B
B to Camp Devens with the 12th Division and promoted to the rank Ijj
H of Lieut.-Col. In this position he served until February 1919 Bl
w wneii ne was nonoranty uiscnarged rrom military duties. R
E Mr. Stoll now offers for the vacancy caused by the lament- g
S able death of the Hon, J, W. Ragsdale, Congressman from the p
| Sixth District. H i
1 The friends of Mr. Stoll have so often referred to him as a B
suitable Congressman, many of whom even urged him to become g
a candidate in 1916, that it was but natural for them to turn to H
him upon the death of Congressman Ragsdale who had served p
I Williamsburg County with such marked interest and ability. I
( Mr. Stoll is qualified for the services required of a Con- I
gressman. He is not biased, but broad in his views; he has ca- I
r pacity and discernment and a judicial mind; a very high sense of
justice and a full appreciation of the responsibilities and the I
duty which devolve upon a public officer in whom has been en- E
i trusted the welfare of the people. ffi
.
; f i Williamsburg will attest to Hjs fitness by an almost unani- I
mous vote, and we without reserve recommend his candidacy to )
the voters of the Sixth Congressional District. B
