DAYLIGHT BILL
IS VETOED AGAIN!
President Declares Measure

Promotes Production by
Industry.
Washington.?President Wilson today
vetoed the bill repealing the daylight
saving law.
The president said he returned the
bill without his approval with the
"utmost reluctance" because he realized
"the very considerable, and in
some rosnects verv serious incon
veniencdfc to which the daylight savings
law subjects the farmers of the
country."
The president's niesage was sent
to Speaker Gillette, but when an effort
was made to present it to the
House, Representative Blanton, Democrat,
Texas, made a point of no quorum
and the house adjourned without
the message being read.
Declaring the pressing need of the
country was for production by industry,
the president said he had been
obliged to "balance one set to disadvantages
against another and decide
which was the more serious for the
country."
This was the second time the president
had vetoed repeal of the law
by which the clocks are set forward
an hour on the last Sunday in March
and turned back an hour the last Sun
day in October.
The first veto was several weeks
ago, the repeal being attached as a
rider to the annual agricultural ap
piopriation. 1

of congress could not recall a pre- 5
vious instance of a president having
vetoed twice the same bill. Efforts t
to pass the agricultural measure over 1
the veto failed in the house and then i
the separate house repeal bill then t
pending, was passed by the senate.
Leaders in congress doubt that the
two-thirds vote necessary to pass 1
the repeal measure over the presi- t
dent's head can be obtained. i

HOG IIM COLD STORAGE
TWENTY-FIVE YEARS
Detroit.?Agents of the investigation
branch here of the department of
justice said that in one cold storage
plant visited a frozen hog was found
which they were told had been in
storage for 25 years.
The officials declared that while
;hey believed that if the hog really
lad been held for that length of time
t was through an oversight. They in;end
to investigate further next week.
Unconfirmed reports form Chihuaiua
City brought to our border stated
hat 40 persons had been executed as
i result of the discovery of the mutiny
plot in the federal garrison there
ast week.
