CALLING OFF SALES.
The Conway Tobacco Board of
Trade held a meeting on Wednesday
night of last week to consider the
congestion of tobacco accumulating
at the freight depots here; and decided
on account of the tie-up on the
railroads to call off the tobacco sales
for last Friday. The tobacco had
been accumulating at the depot for
some time owing to the scrcity of
cars furnished by the railroad company
for hauling it away and something
had to be done to remedy this
condition, hence there were no sales
on Friday of last week.
The regular sale took place at the
warehouses last Thursday, and there
were no more sales lint'l Mond?v of
this week.

TELEGRAM EXPLAINS
TOBACCO SITUATION
The following- telgeram, hamlet
t > the Herald by Mr. J. R. Howies,
explains the situation regarding tobacco
sales as aiiccted by the railroad
strikes:
"Richmond, Va.
"Tobacco Hoard of Trade.
"Following firms, J. P. Taylor Co.,
ln-peiial Tol). Co., The Export Leaf
Tobacco Co., The American Tob. Co..
have withdrawn their buyers from
iV.arket for reason that tobacco cannot
be moved due to railroad employees.
Am wiring every tobacco
market of South Carolina, Georgia,
and bordering North Carolina. The
day the railroads announce acceptance
of tobacco without restriction
for delivery they will reenter the
market. This telegram is sent in
justice to the general tobacco interest.
Every warehouse is urged in uie
meanwhile not to offer any tobacco
for sale.
