Washington.?Repeal of the government
price guarantee for wheat, to on 1
able farmers to secure higher prices
was urged at a special meeting of the
Senate agricultural committee. Action
by the committer* was deferred.
Senator Norris, Republican, Nebraska,
proposed repeal of the price*

Washington.?The War Department
made public a complete price list of
subsistence stores available for sale
to the public through the parcel post
or through municiple selling agencies.
Costs of the commodities to the government,
the department said, had
jbeen disregarded entirely in fixing
I the prices of sale, which arc materially
lower than prevaling market
i rates.
The prices quoted are f. o. b. from
l storage points in each of the thirteen
I districts into which the country is
i
.divided for War Department subsistence
purposes. The department is
i now redistributing the food supplies
in the thirteen areas in order that
each may have its proportion per population
of the twenty-two articles ofj
i'erod for public sale.

per can or individual units in each
case and also the price per case or
|larger container. It also shews the

adding parcel post rates from the
nearest distribution point to the home
ot the consumer to the f. o. b. prices
quoted.
Freight Added.
Municipal selling agencies will com
pete freight charges on these shipments
tQ he added to the price quoted
by the War Department. On the parcel
post distribution, no order's will foe
received direct by the War* Department
but only through the posttffflcc
Department, which will requisition
the supplies by case or larger package,
the postmasters in turn breaking
these shipments into unit packages
of a single can or several cans.
Sales to municipalities at the new
prices will begin as soon as the surplus
property at the various depots
has reached the prices made.
The dcparmcnt emphasized that no
change in the policy of selling to the
municipalities had been made, the
only alteration having been made in
prices.
Although only 22 food staples are
enumerated in the price list, the itemized
quotations, owing to the variety
of packing, are quite lengthy.
Quotations on some of the leading
articles are:
Corned beef, 55 cents for a can of
1 26 pounds; bnknd beans. 5 cents per
can of 1 1-4 pounds; sweet corn, 10
c( nts per 2 1-4 pound can; dry beans,
$6.49 per 100 pounds; crackers, 5 an '
6 cents a pound; army flour, $6 per
100 pounds; macaroni, 7 cents per
1 1-2 pounds; rolled oats, 12 cents per
2 pounds; seeded raisins, 10 cents per
prund; rice, $6.74 per 100 pounds; tomatoes,
9 cents per two-pound can,
and white corn meal, $2.50 per 100
pounds.
