FOURTH GENERALLY
OBSERVED IN HORRY
I
Many of the people of the county
of)served the Fourth last week ov
resting from their work or business;
many going to distant places co
spend all or a part of the day. An- i
tomobiles passed through Conway on j
their way to Myrtle Ueach, Murrei'sj
j In'et, and a few en route to other j
points of interest. There were picnics
at several places in the county
and it is said that all of these were
well attended. Some of the people '
took in the excursion to Georgetown j
land saw the seaplane which was advertised
as an attraction at that
place.
Some of the tobacco growers who
happened to have their barns full of
tobacco in the process of curing, had
to remain with that and of course
could not observe the Fourth by taking
the day oil".
o
There is a scarcity of fruit this
year because the trees have not
borne any. Huckleberries and blackberries
are very scarce. The grape
crop is the, only fruit crop that will
amount to anything in Horry County
this year.
Ivory Hemingway was admitted to
bail last Monday evening under an
order of Judge Shipp. He is the nogro
hand from the W. C. Adams
farm recently lodged in jail under a
charge of assault brought by another
negro.
The weather continued to be cool
most of last week, especially at night
and in the mornings. This cool spell
is thought to have been bad for the
giowth of the cotton crops over the
country; but other crops were thought
to be doing just as well as if the r
weather had been hot.
i
Repairs were recently made to the t
railroad tracks loadnig through the i
town, partly rotten cross ties being
taken out and new ones inserted under
the rails. This work was needed
long before it was done.
