Nicholas, near Homewood, this one being open on June 21st. It came from the cotton crop which is being raised by J. G. THE HORRY HERALD, CON BIS TOBACCO CROP f 1 GROWING IN HORRY " Horry County has the biggest to bacco crop in the history of the industry here. All over Horry County there is an increased acreage apparent by looking at the fields. They arc so much larger and 'numerous that an observer nulst "kii'ow that the number of acres planted has been i greatly increased over past yea**, 1 although there are no figures Svhich < can at the present time show the exact amount of the increase. Taken as a whole the crop is doing well. In a few places the rains have been slow in coming and a small amount of the weed has suffered | from the dry weather, and perhaps mere nas been some loss trom drying up on the stalks; but as a general iiile the plants are in good condition and either in the process of manuring or just now arriving at that point. From the indications now the acreage planted will produce more tobacco per acre than the Horry County soil ever produced per acre before. Early last week the growers in i j nearly all sections of the county were curing their first gathering of j send lugs. 0 D. K. McDuffie was here from J.oris one day the first of the week. V ? r I J. Late reports from sections of Waceamaw Neck were still gloomy as ptactically no rains had fallen there. * * * * McQueen Quattlcbaum and Mi. Whitesearver, of the U. S. Engineer's office, of Georgetown, passed through Conway last week en route to Lake Waccamaw. From there they made a surveying trip down the river in a canoe, the government boat meeting them, at Rod Bluff Monday. Capps, of Aynor, had an open ccotton bloom on Juno 18th, tho same day that T. G. Hatelier, another farmer, picked one from his crop and -int to the I lorry Herald. Mr. Capps planted the cotton the latter part ot March and has one ol' the finest cotton crops in the County. His other crops arc equally fine. o NOTED FARMER GONE. Return Page, of Galivants Ferry, died on Sunday morning, June 15th, at about thei age of seventy-five years, leaving a large number of sons and daughters, all of whom arc grown. He was a very successful fanner, quiet and unassuming in his ways, and a good citizen in every respect. He was a twin brother of William Page of the same township. o WACCAMAW RIFLE CLUB.
