this county now are dry enough for
the. purpose of ordinary travel, but

the Loris section were sorry to hear
of his illness recently. Mr, Butler
suffered a severe stroke of paralysis
following the excitement caused by
a trouble about a land line between
himself and W. S. Cox.

Horry's share from the automobile
licenses this year amounts to more
than two thousand dollars as appears
by an article published in anothei
column of this paper. This money is
required to be spent on the public
roads and it is said that this was not
done last year in some of the counties
of this State.

trace of her had been discovered; but
since last week, even these untrue
stories have stopped.

STORY NOT CONFIRMED.
One of the stories going the
rounds last week about the disappearance
of Mrs. Mary Newton, was
to the effect that some evidence had
been discovered of foul play in connection
with her disappearance; and
that several arrests would be made
ir. the course of a day or two. This
story as well as several others going
about could not be confirmed at the
time.

FARM LABOR IN STATE.
According to the Government report
released by B. B. Hare, South
Carolina Field Agent of the Bureau
of Crop Estimates, U. S. Department
of Agriculture, the supply of farm
labor in South Carolina is 20 per
cent less and the demand 2 per cent i
more than on the corresponding date
of last year; while for the entire
United States the supply is 15.G per
cent less with an increase in demand
of 1.8 per cent.

Mrs. Sherwood served a delicious

after which the doors were thrown
open and the machine started and
dancing was the next on the program.
The party at Mr. and Mrs.
Sherwood's was one of the most att)
active and pleasant affairs given
the visiting girls and returned soldiers
last week.

there should be no lagging by the
people at home in the Victory Liberty

A horrible accident took place on
tpril 1st at the residence of Mr. C.
Gore near Little River, when his

from which she died. The
