THURSDAY, MARCH 27, 1919
There is no sure cure for laziness.
o
The war is now over but we will
still have our troubles.
o
The desire to improve is one of the
greatest things in this world.
o
Happiness and contentment come
fiom within and not from without
the person.
Most of us lack in accomplishment
because we do not know enough; and
r.+ :ii .?i ?<- ? i -ii
ICCI UIIU cn:t il WC K.nCW It till
to begin with.
o
The success of some men is laid to
their luck, by others who are behind
in the race; but it is usually hard
work and not hard luck.
o
If our people will work now for
improvements in this county and in
their county seat as hard as they
worked to win the war, and with as
good an organization; results will
soon tell and we will have the best
county in the eastern part of the
Slate.
Men who are keeping in touch with '
the situation say that there will be I
no chance of returning to prewar!
prices on most of the things we buy \'
and use now. They claim that this
is jso by reason of the scarcity of
products as compared with the in- |
creased demand; and the situation
regarding labor in this country.
o
The fanner must use good judgment
about his affairs the year
round if he would attain the success
tliat he deserves. A farm nan with
cut careiui planning- anu close application
and systematic attention
the whole year round is likely to
turn out with a mortgage on it before
long.
Henry Ford is now busy locating
factories in which he says ho will
build a still cheaper car for the general
public; one that will cost about
$250.00 or not exceeding $300.00,
and making it possible for everybody
to ride when they want to?and they
always want to. He realizes that
there are some who will not want to
be caught in as cheap a "lizzie" as
that, but he knows that thousands of
people care not how they go just so
tt.ey get there and arrive fast Here's
hoping that this will not turn out to
be only another joke on the Ford.
o
There is a great uncertainty as to
the prices leaf tobacco will bring
this year. Until recently the prices
on the Virginia and . Kentucky marVets
remained high. There was a
tumble in prices however about the
fiist of March. It is feared, and
with reason, that the supplies of the
iranufacturers are large from the
purchases they made from last

EDDIE LUTHER FLOYD.
In Loving Remembrance of Dear
Papa.
On the twenty-eighth day of Janu
ary 1919 the death angel visited our
home and took from us our dear
father.
He leaves a wife, Mrs. E. L. Floyd;
five daughters, Maude, Edna, Bessie,
Edith and Katherine, and one
son, John. Also his mother and
father, Mr. and Mrs. Maybury Floyd,
of Loris; five sisters, Mrs. P. B.
Watson, and Mrs. John, Roberta of
Green Sea; Misses Emma, Queenic
and Mary Floyd of Loris, and two
brothers. Dr. L. D. Floyd, of the U.
S. Army, now at Long Island and
Joe Floyd, now with the American
Army in France. Besides these he
leaves a host of relatives and friends
to mourn the loss.
We mourn for him but not as
t^tdse who have no hope. We feel
that it was for the best because it
was God's will. Papa was sick only
a short while of influenza followed
by pneumonia. He was thirty-five
years and nine months old. His re
nmina were laid to rest in the t?rcen
Sea cemetery.
We felt that the death of dear

Papa was such a great loss. But
while it is our loss it is his eternal
gain.
Dear Papa, we can't see why you
had to go
And leave us here behind,
But wo can only look to God;
To ease our troubled mind.
We go mourning every day,
We cannot help but weep;
For we are so sad and lonely
Since our Papa fell asleep.
Sleep on dear Papa,
And take thy rest;
God called you home,
'Un IfttTfi/l vaii Vir?o
Thou art gone but not forgotten,
Never will your memory fade;
Sweetest thoughts will ever linger,
