DANIELS WANTS
POWERFUL NAVY
Washington.?The secretary of the
navy has asked congress for $600,000,000
for additional naval construction,
constituting a second "three
year program."
This is simply the next step in carrying
on the policy inaugurated r:
3 916, before this country entered the
war for increasing the size of the
navy. The work of the navy dors
not end with the war. There is still
a large American merchant marine
to protect and there will be, it is
hoped, a league of nations, the decrees
of which will have to be enforced
upon disobedient nations by
the navies of the world.
o
Rather Discouraging.
Miss Willing," began the young
man as he wiped the perspiration
ui << f ,
x i win ins mow, are you ioiui 01

"If thoy are new, Mr. Woodby,"
replied the fair maid, according i )
the Pittsburgh Chronicle-Telegraph,
"I simply dote on them."
"But tho one I was going to tell
you, Miss Willing, is not new," said
the young man. "It is, I might say,
Miss Willing?or, Clara?the old, old
story, but "
"O, never mind, George," she interrupted.
"Even if it is a chestnut,
I'm sure I never heard it. Go on
please!"
