THURSDAY, DEC. 26, 1918 The Kaiser's fate is yet undecided except in immagination. v o There are a few things you cannot leave to Uncle Sam to do for you. ? ?o We know a few here in Conway who act as if they were bigger than President Wilson. o Why should hard earned money be thrown away in useless and riotous living; when it could be used to increase the usefulness and benefit and pleasure of the owner of it and other people too. The answer can be i given only by the one who spends it that way. We liavo heard farmers say that i they could never raise too many sweet potatoes. We believe it is true. The same can be said of wheat, and yet, there are farmers in this county i who have the very best kind of land for wheat and are not planting a wheat crop for harvest next Spring. ! The farmer who fails to raise his supplies at homo makes the biggest mistake of the time. The farmers of Horry can raise their supply of wheat flour just as well as they raise their supply of corn and meat. Some have tried ;t and did well. Others stand off while their neighbors beat them to it in enterprise and profit. o One of the greatest sections of the whole United States is here. Never allow anyone to fool you into think ing that some where else is better, for it cannot be. Here in Horry county are possibilities such as can be found at few locations in thi whole country. Our section is destined to become one of the richest in the world. You can help make it so. o Every family in this count r;. needs for use during the Winder, a plentiful supply of dried beans an l dry field p as. The invasion of the meeting hall by soldiers was the first topic brought up foi debate. The chairman announced he haci received word that the men of the Berlin garrison forces were surprised to learn of the action of the invaders, who were declared not to represent all the troops quartered in Berlin. The garrison troops declared they desired to present thei 1 case at a plenary session or by moans of delegates. The congress voted that the latter method be adopted and the debate was temporarily adjourned. I ho house then adopted Chairman Loinert's suggestion that the congress refuse to receive delegations whose coming was not arranged foi such as those of Tuesday. NOVEL LIQUOR SCHEME. Cincinnati.?Accoiding to government agents, who today sealed up *a collar here which they claim contains a large amount of contraband liquor, a wholesale bootlegging establishment has been revealed. With the arrest of David Shaw of Macon, Ga., the government men claim to have put a stop to the shipping of $20,000 worth of whiskey a month into Georgia. The manner in which the liquor was -shipped, according to the government ^pien, was in the form of barrels of tar. A three inch layer of tar put in the bottom of the barrel. Then a quan. tity of bottled whiskey with the bottles wrapped in wax oaner to nre vent sticking, was put in. Tar was poured in on these and the process repeated until the barrel was filled, with the three inches of tar on the top. Then the barrel was sealed and shipped to its destination, said by the officials to be Macon, Ga. % The Anderson Farmers Market jng Association was chartered IfcVt 1 week. j I i i ^ i THE WAR IS NOW OVER! This is in marked contrast to the situation in England where there are 20,000 shell shock victims on the pension rolls. Col. Bailey revealed that contrary to the general belief shell shock does not necessarily come from heavy can nonading. Proof of this te found in* the fact that from ten to twelve cent of the casualties in the Chateau Thierry fighting were shell shock, most of these men having been exposed only to machine gun fire. o George?I sec you've got M; P, on your sleeve.
