Marshal Petain, Commander in Chief
of the French Armies, has told Ked
Cross officials in France that as soon
as possible he plans to come to the
United States personally to thank
the Red Cross for its work during the

Mary Custis Lee, sold surviving child i
of Gen. Robert E. Lee, died here today
after a brief illness. In recent j
years she had spent the greater part j
of her time in Washington and in
Richmond, where she was honorary j
president of the Lee Chapter Unite 1
Daughters of the Confederacy, and of
managers of the home for needy Con
federate women. It is planned to
place her body beside that of her
father in the vault of the Lee mailsleum
at Washington and Lee University,
Lexington, Va.
