Dillon.?The influenza situation is
improving in the towns, but about at
its height in the mi*a] districts of the
county. Dr. Schweitzer of the public
health service is at the head of the
forces combatting the disease in Dillon
County, and is handling the situation
effectively doctors say. Five
nurses are also here at the direction
of the public health service. There
have been several deaths since yesterday.

Spinks, died Sunday morning: at 4
o'clock at hev home in Phoenix, near
Greenwood, after an illness of about
two weeks, tier death was caused by
pneumonia following, an attack ot influenza.
She was about 50 years ot
age and the wife of the Rev. J. I.
Spinks, a Methodist minister. She is
survived by her husband and 11 children,
Mrs \V. E. Hall ot Fort Mill,
Mrs S. H. Gibson and Mrs J. M.
Mason and B. C. Spinks ol Charles*
ton, B. \Y. Spinks, of New XQrk. and
| J. F. Spinks, who is now i'A actlvO
service in France, Tevn Belle, Carrie,
Clifton ami Deborah Spinks at home.
All except three of Mrs Spinks' children
were at her bedside when she
died. Mrs Spinks was a noble Christian
woman whose death will he
mourned by many friends in various
sections of the State.

Joseph Melton Watts died at his
home in Conway on the !2th inst., after
suffering just a few dayss from a
case of pneumonia, following influenza.
Joe was born March 28th, 1885,
and was a son of the late B. B. Watts.
Ho leaves a wife who was Miss Loula
M. Rodgers, of Adrian, S. C., and two
little children, to mourn their loss

and sisters to whom Joe was
