dthe itonj ?w;JW. CONWAY, S^O. Altered at the Post Office at Conway & C, u second class mail matter. H. H. WOODWARD NMiihed Every Thursday Morning by Conway Publishing Co. THURSDAY, OCT. 31, 1918 It is a long time before Germany will have a cloudless day. o Thousands of Huns on the run is indeed, it must be, a pleasing sight, o Germany did the boasting and the preparing for world domination; and yet the United States will dictate the terms upon which she shall have peace. o We arc fighting this war in the pursuance of principles which must be forever kept in sight. The war would not have been fought by us without these in mind, therefore no peace must be made except in accordance with them . - o The war will not dampen individual efforts of the farmers of this section in the broadening and improvement of their farms. They will clear up more land and will make new improvements on the lands they already have under cultivation. o Since the war began the art of knitting has been practiced more and more. Now somebody has invented a hand knitting machine that will run with a weight and knit a pair of socks before you know it as compared in thn old method with the fing- I ers. This machine is being advertised for sale in many magazines. HEALTH OFFICER MAKES STATEMENT I . . .. t mi ^ . Dr. James A. Hayne, State health officer, in speaking of the epidemic says, "From a genera! survey of the situation in the State, I feel that th? grip of the epidemic is broken. Although there arc a great many cases of influenza, the number of new cases is decreasing daily, and with the increasing personal employed through the public health service, we are get- ( ting in a position to render aid to: communiticB whore medical men are not available or are too few in number. ?? 10 ?- i LUDENDORF QUITS. ' ' r4 " I* . . ' "? 1 I A crash has come in the personnel of the German high command. Gen- ( oral Ludendorf, reputed to be the brains of the German army?the man who promised the Germans he wuold crush Great Britain and France before the United States could get under way in a military sense?has resigned his position as first quartermaster general and Emperor William has actepted his resignation. o KAISER WILLIAM'S HEAD. Paris.?An enormous crowd assembled before the Reichstag building in Berlin yesterday calling for the abdication of Emperor William and the1 formation of a republic, according to a special dispatch l rom Zurich to j I/Information. Dr Karl Liohknecht, the socialist leader who has just been release-\ from prison, was applauded fran-j tically. lie wrfs compelled to enter j a carriage filled with flowers, from \ which he made a speech declaring that the time of the people had ar- j rived. BUT HOW DO THKY KONW? ! I Reports that the influenza germs may have been brought to the United States and spread by enemy agents, possibly landed on American shores from submarines, have been investigated by government agents, but no basis for them has been found. Investigators of several government departments declared recently that | they wore convinced after an inquiry! that the disease was brought to this! country through the natural ehan-1 nels of affected seamen, travelers or imports and not by malicious methods, but the question is how do they know ? o 666 cures Headaches, Bilious- j ness, Loss of Appetite, foul breath, or that tired aching feeling due to Malaria or Colds. It removes the cause. Wo are now prepared to furr./^h job printing on short notice as the printers are over the influenza and back at work. Bring the work to the place where there is plenty of material and good workmanship. NOTICE OF STATE AND COUNTY ELECTION ? 4 * STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA, County of Horry.
