THURSDAY, AUG, 15, 1918 It ivi ukpIpss in oxnert houciuets all the time. We too often wait until after a man is dead to show our appreciation of his goodness. Tobacco is one of the greatest things on earth to the tired soluiers in the trenches. Believe it or not, the truth remains as any soldier will tell you. (i What do you think of a man win would rather steal from >\ u than t? let you give him your substance Plenty will act this way. o The slacker is like the automobile which is trying to run on short rations of gasoline. There is not enough energy units behind the pow er plant. o The hot weather of Summer time is apt to cause a feeling of lassitude and tired nerves, sufficient in numbers of people to make them believe they are either very sick or about to be stricken with some fatal malady. The recourse of many is to resort to some favorite patent medicine and thus get relief, v hk'h is nothing more nor less than a change in the system either stopping them from eating for a meal or two or causing them to take more rest. , > , " It should bo human nature to j strive for any other improvement. ; Any other way is contrary to human nature?a perversion of human nature. o Many tobacco growers have taken in more coin than they ever enjoyed before in their lives. The ?'xp< rience may not be repeated in a d' zen years for what we can tell. Good fortune must be handled in the right way if k is to be of lasting good. Never make the mistake of spending this incerased wealth for useless things. Use this money for improvements in the home and on the farm. Money thrown away is worse than any money at all. o "And for your country, boy, and for that flag, never dream a dream but of serving her as she bids you, even though the srevice carry you through a thousand hells. No matter what happens to you, no matter who flatters you or who abuses you, never look at another flag, never let a night pass but you pray God to bless that flag. Remember, boy, that behind officers and government, and people, even, there is the country herself; your country, and that you belong to her as you belong to your own mother. Stand by her, boy, as you would stand by your own mother."?Edward Everett Hale. o Why the change made by the county board so that they no longer leave it to the people to select the township 1 supervisors by popular vot:1; and they will now appoint the supervisors as the law provides? Attention of people everywhere has been directed to the bad condition of the main roads in till sections of the county. 1'hat they arc bad there is no doubt, and that it needs somebody to study pians to avoid this bad condition goes without question. So the county board must have decided that they will appoint the men best fitted to see after the roads rather than run the risk of the election by the people of men who might not be competent. To keep the roads in good condition will at any time and by anybody take up time and money. Hut the people can afford to spend time and money on a thing which is of so much importance to the farmers of the counrPU A HA n cam fnn tU A /-iU A A r*A n>li t AK . l iiu i ivyi tin* v. itcii? Iin.il has been made in the appointment of the township supervisors must lie in the fact that the change may bring an improvement in the conditions of the roads. We cannot see it in any ther light. Q In judging the service rendered by others always remember the circumstances under which we are all living. The conditions brought about by the war is usually the reason and we have no right to complain about the war. o It is impossible to please sonu people. o A Ford truck will be of more value to many farmers than a Ford touring car. Tobacco growers this year in sonv cases have raised a fine grade of th<* leaf bringing more than fifty cents per pound. In every case of firm grades it will be found that th<> grow er cured and handled the tobacco with a high degree of care.
