FIRE WAS TOO FAR 1
FROM WATER PIPE
The fire which destroyed the tenant
house of the estate of the late
\V. R. Lewis, last week, happened U
be too far away from the water sup- |
ply to allow the fire department to
do any good with the hose. The
nearest hydrant was one near the
Horry Warehouse, and it took about
two thousand feet of fire hose to
reach from this hydrant to the tenan4
house which was burned, and the |
pressure from the supply proved to
be {< u wciik |o fcarry the stream to
ihe top of tRe'bufflding. The building
was in flames about all over the top
when the boso. got there. An important
thing * to db# to extend the '
bene'its of the fire protection by
lengthening the pipes and placing;
oilier hydrants.
