With the American Forces on tlm
Marne ? American troops on the
Maine front last night captured the
northwestern part of Belleau Wood.
The Americans cleared this strategic
position of all Germans, captured
some prisoners and too'k live machine
guns.
The Americans are now in complete
possession of the woods. The
attack began with a heavy barrage
after which tho Americans went over
almost immediately and smoked out
the Germans, whose positions wore
regarded as almost impregnable. One
machine-gun found in a tree was
operated by a pulley.
The operation lasted only half an
nour. ic is takcn to turtner testny
to the thoroughness of Americans
to succeed in any undertaking assigned
to them. The whole affair was
brilliantly conceived and brilliantly
carried out.

The communique says.
"In spite of opposition, we again
improved our positions northwest of
Chateau-Thierry. In this region the
artillery of both sides continues active.
In the Vosges, where patrolling
has been very active, a raid attempted
by the enemy was repulsed"

lantic journey through the air to
furnish what it cails a semidirigible
instead of an English engine airpi
tine, according to the latest plans)
Under consideration.
The new craft has been offered by
a Middle West corporation, which,
agrees to furnish what they call a
semi-dirigible that wil 1 surpass the
Zeppelin in size, speed, carrying capacity
and general serviceability.
All details of the super-airship are
guarded, because if it does anything
like what its inventors claim it will
be a tremendous war machine. They
promise a speed of 70 to 100 miles
an hour and a carrying capacity of
six men and thirty tons of cargo, and
say they are able to exceed these
specifications. They say they will
use the Newfoundland Toute, not
caring as much about the uncertainty
of weather conditions as the airship
folks Gen Brancker in his suggestion
of an over-ocean airship flight
adopted the route via the Azores and
Portugal.
These people say they will make
London by direct flight and that the>
will deliver letters in the English
capital in fourteen hours and have
them in the hands of the men in the
trenches thirty hours after they arc
mailed in New York.
