The company is making out of thin sheets of gum ; and poplar, squares and oblongs of , ( standard sizes used in the production of goods boxes. Already this prod- j uct has been sent out by the car load as rapidly as the product is pro- . duced at the plant. Numbers of hands are employed in the work, ami some additional machines will be j installed without delay. A large investment has already been made and Conway is now getting the benefit of this industry which is practically new in this section of the State. The timber from which the sheets of veneer are being made is now being furnished by D. V. Richardson from his large tracts of timber land in Rucks township. Mr. Walter 1\ Stilly is the manager of the plant. Mr. A. H. Edgerton, of North Carolina, is interested in the business and visits Conway intervals on business connected with the company. BOLD BREAKS CHESTNUT'S STORE A bold thief broke a hole in the J*.lass of the front door of W. B.; .Chestnut & Co., last Monday night; and he entered through the hole and proceeded to try to unlock the safe. Ho took off the nickel plated knobs decorating the hinges of the safe, laid them on the floor, hut was unabh to go in any further. The. cash register was also a "white elephant" for him, us he only succeeded in getling it tied up and was evidently frustrated in his designs to take what cash there was in it at the time. Some change left in a drawer at the soda fountain was not bothered. A box of cigarettes was opened but none taken. While making his investigations inside the store tie was evidently satisfying his appetite op. candy, for he left a piece lying near the safe and the signs on it showed he had been eating it. o M. C. Adams saved a French girl from drowning as his ship was about to lave the shores of France on a return trip. He saved her life and was rewarded by the French commander. Mr. Adams, who lives in Dogwood Neck township has a full account in a letter received from his son ft few weeks ago. Bethea will not be connected with the school any further having resigned to fill the position of postmaster, and a new Superintendent having been elected by the trustees. The exorcises began on June 13lh with the rendition of a play entitled "America" and in which many of the pupils were engaged as characters.
