The red cross drive has been sue-'
cesfcful in this State., so were the Tibei'tK
loans , so far asked of the people.
It- remains now to buy the State"s

stamps. Last week, speaking in round
numbers; the State had only bought
a million of the stamps out of the;
thirty-two mill iron necessary to ipiuke
out the quota of South Carolina. We
must all get busy and increase the
sales of the stamps in every way that

married to Mr. John H. Atkinson, on
Wednesday of last week at the Bap
tist Parsonage, the Rev. Mr. Hill
of the Conway Baptist church, p r
forming the ceremony.
The bride and grcom drove to the
residence of the minister in the afternoon
about 3 o'clc-k from their homes

The bride is well and favorably
known to the people of the county
and has many friends at Conway
where she has frequently visited. Her
father is a leading- citizen of the Ce<ka.r

has just finished her third term as a
teacher in the High Point School
near Jordanville, having filled thi:
position with efficiency and endearing
herself to both parents and pupils.
She is a very charming an i
accomplished young lady in nun/
ways. John H. Atkinson has been in
charge of the large mercantile business
.and farming operation-; at Jordan
viHe for the past number of
years. Ho is a young business man
of ability who gives strict attention
to business and by his efforts has
built up a large circle of cu.ito.nciv
at a place where formerly there was
very little business clone.
He is known to all the people of
that section of the county and hundreds
of good friends will be glad' to
learn of his good fortune in winning

and kept on file.
There is another reason why all
this data as to organization shoiild be

savings edition that we will publish
on June 13th, the list of all the local
councils in Horry County, the place
where located, and the names of the
chairmen or presidents and secretaries,?provided
we are able to obtain
the data. The best v.ay to be sure

HOW TO HARVEST "
THE WHEAT CROP
Practically all wheat planted in
Horry County will be ready to har*
vest within a week or ten days. Farm
work should be arranged so that the
wheat crop can In* harvested just as
soon as ready to cut. This is
tically a new crop in the County and
the following- suggestions on harvesting
are offered for the benefit of
those growing wheat the first time:
When to Cut Wheat.
The proper time to cut wheat is
shown by the degree of hardness of
the grain and by the color of the

in different sections of the field, and
if the grains examined are soft
enough to be indented by the finger
nail but too hard to be easily crushed
between the thumb and finger, the
wheat is in the proper stage for
cutting. The straw of most plants
at this stage of maturity will have
nuned yellow.

to use for seed wheat. He equally as
