Gold . fipch ip Conway and the' whole-of Hprry; County feel a just pride in the honor that has been conferred upon him by the Methodists of the State, in nipking. him a delegate to the General Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, which convened in Atlunta, Ga., May 1, 1918. This Conference meets everv four v 1 1 years, and is composed of an equal number of ministers and laymen? one of each, for every * forty-eight members of the Annual Conferences. The South Carolina Conference sends four preachers and four laymen who were elected by ballot at the last ses. sion of our Annual Conference. The General Conference makes ull the laws, elects the bishops, creates the various boards, controls the publishing interests, and in short, shapes md directs the policies of the whole ohu rch. The session usually continues for about three weeks, and is presided over by ail of the bishops alternately, according to seniority in office, a different one occupying the chair each day. Much of the work of the Cofcrence is done through committees, very similar to the way in which it is done by the National House of Representatives at Washington. Fraternal delegates w ill dome to J Atlanta from other groat Methodist I bodies, such as the British Wcsloyan, I the Canadian Methodcs't, the Methodist Episcopal, anil the Methodist Protestant churchos. The other was a Ford runabout belonging to Dr. Adams of the Horry Ding Company and was being driven at the time by the doctor himself.
