SECOND WAR DRIVE "i
AMERICAN RED CROSS;
1 i 1
(
The week of May 6 to May 13 in- r
elusive has been set aside by the W.r'j
Council of the American Red Cross (
for the next War Drive in which. (
$ 100,000,000 will be raised to carry's
cn the relief work of the Red Cross (
all over the world, according to the
announcement of Henry P. Davison.
Chairman of the Council, which has
just been made public. This amount (
will be apportioned the 13 Divisions <;
of the Red Cross in this country a*- |
cording to the population and wealth
of the .section, and every penny of it,
will be devoted to the work of relief 1
for which it is given.
Asa G. Candler has been appointed
Chairman of thes War Drive Committee
for the Southern Division, and
will supervise the work in the five
States that comprise the division
Georgia, Morula, the two Carolina*
and Tennessee.
Of the $100,000,000 raised by the <.
Red Cross in its last drive in the summer
of 1917, about $80,000,000 have
already been appropriated for relief
work in this country and in Europe, ^
so that another campaign is neces- ^
sary if there is to be no gap in this 3
work of mercy. Out of this the larg- *
est single appropriation has been '
made for work in France for which,
more than $.??0,000,000 has been set j
aside, including every branch of mi'itary
and civilian relief. Large appropriations
have also been made for ,
work in Belgium, England, Italy, Russia,
Roumania, Serbia and Armenia,
as well a^ for relief work among the
American prisoners in Germany, .and
for both military and civilian relief in 1
this country.
The War Council is confident that
the amount they have rendered of the
way in which the last $100,000,000
have been spent as well as the cause
they represent will make the raising
of the next $100,000,000 an easy task.
