INTERNED GERMANS
CLEVERLY ESCAPE
Ten Go Through Tunnel Under
One of Barracks at Fort
McPherson.
Atlanta, Ga.?Ten German sailors j
interned with several hundred others
at Fart McPhorson escaped last night
through a tunnel they had started under
one of the barracks and which led
them to liberty a hundred feet away.
The men were brought here a few
weeks ag0 from Fort Oglethorpe and
officers believe they had been wo'rkimg
'on the tunnel since shortly afte.
their arrival.
Soon after the escape was discoverer
this morning bloodhounds followed
a trail about a mile from the fort
to a small stream into which the fugitives
evidently had waded to baffle
-the dogs. Every one of them left
ftfiwtJfr > on the bank 01 the stream,
'but no other wearing apparel was
found.
Soldiers from the post are seeking
the Germans with orders to bring
them in "dead or alive."
Officers are of the opinion that the
men, two of whom were officers, work
ed on the tunnel at night and solved
the problem of disposing of the dirt
by scattering it where new sidewalks
- being von-structed.

FIi !'o i. nothing- more important

hogs they can t.) aid in supplying.
N cut. It is a quicker \va\ than the
raising of cattle, and will be mov
piofitable to the farmer than cattle
raising. Pork is one of the most
valuable foods for use in time of war
because it is easily cured, can be
handled and transported to the bos'
ncivarvtage, and it supplies the needed
fat that must 30 to make up the die'
of tho soldiers to give efficiency. .
Look after the h^gs on the place
and increase the production by even
plan that you know, is our advice to
every farmer of Horry County. There
is every promise that this work wil
bring as good returns in the way of 1
profits as anything the farmers <-1'
the county can do at this time.
There are many who have never
| engaged in hog raising to any extent
J Now of all times in the history of this
country is the best time to begin to
learn. Let all those who have never
raised any hogs, begin to add their
part to the raising of the world's
supply of meat in this emergency.
